Nakang tyres any good?

Featured Replies

Personally i would expect anything even average from a set of 4 tyres for £182. Thats £45.50 a tyre! I also need to warn you they have the nickname "ditch finders" on most forums. Theyll be ok for straight lines in the dry. Anything more i wouldnt even consider them.

you get what you pay for with tyres.

i had these on my astra sri and found them extremely noisy and they have soft sidewalls.

ok if you are on a budget and dont give it the beans on corners and bends.

Ive had a set on for about a month now. Choose to get them because of the state of the roads. I wasnt going to pay 80 quid a tyre for eagle f1's for them to get ruined. Nakang's arent the best, the car rolls alot more due to the soft side wall. i dont push the car too hard, mainly in a straight line and i cant complain, they do the job. As it has been said before, you get what you pay for

i was told by my local tyer fitter that they were death traps

try uniroyal rainsports

I've used Nakang a few times when money was tight.

While they arent the best tyre in the world they do last quite a long time. I thought they gripped ok in the dry but the grip was poor in the wet.

I would recommend them if you drive steady & dont like to drive fast in the rain.

I put Nakings on my old car because the brand I usually buy werent available and I needed to replace a ripped sidewall job.

First wet day I spun it pulling out of a junction, IN AN OLD RWD MPV!!! Not even trying to be an arse, just a normal pull out!!!!

Took em straight back off and paid for some Dunlops.

Got a set of these on my spiders cos they were on when i got em. Not that bad tbh, better than all the other budgets i`v used, if you can afford decent tyres get them, but out of the budgets they are not the worst by far tbh

I agree with that statement, federal tyres are the worst ive encountered!

Indeed, and "wanli" tyres make me poo my pants in the wet

I've used nangkangs on the fiat before, and I found them fine (with 314lbs/ft through the front wheels) they will never be up to premium standards so expect less, but they are certainly not deathtraps, the perform fine in all conditions, best of the budgets if you ask me, I had autoguards on once, and was SO frightened I immediatley took them off and sold them on ebay!

TT Comps need 205/40/17 minimum unless you want stretch look.

I'd pay for better tyres - they're what help make you go, stop and corner.

Autocar tested some budget tyres a few years ago and this is why I don't buy budgets. Remember tyres are the only things that have contact with the road.

Braking from 50mph with the Linglongs, the VW Golf Autocar used for its tests was still doing 27.8mph at the point where it had stopped on the Continentals. :o

WhatCar has recently done tests with 3 premium tyres vs 3 unknown budgets. http://www.whatcar.com/car-news/tyre-test-why-budget-tyres-could-kill/251766

They came to this conclusion:

Don't even think about skimping on tyres. It’s tempting to save money in the short term by going for the budget option, but you’d be unwise to do so. Tyres are the only part of your car that make contact with the road, so you’re far better off sticking to the premium brands and hunting around for the lowest prices on those. As our investigation clearly shows, cheap tyres could easily cost you your life.

I like the result for continetals, as I have them on my new fabia vRS II, but a thing to think about is, I have pushed the vRS and my old (107,000 miles) fiat with nangkangs on the back and maxxis V1's on the front, (205/45/17's) still gripped the same as the new vRS does, with continetal's on (205/40/17's)

most budget tyres are frighteningly bad (especially the wanlis by all accounts) but the nangkangs arn't that bad....

edit: just noticed how well the nagkangs did in the above test  plays out my opinions.

Is it just me or do you think its a bit stupid in the first place if your going to be pushing the car hard in the wet? You always adapt your driving to the conditions. I had continental's before i put the Nankangs on and i felt the NS2's griped better is both wet and dry.

I've just got rid of a set of Nankangs on my vRS, and not a minute too soon. Bloody awful ! Even at £38 a corner they simply weren't worth having. If you like drifting a car about a lot then they do give a lot of fun, but would easily catch the inexperienced driver out. I opted for Uniroyal Rainsport 2's, but would also consider Vredestein Sessanta's (probably no longer available, try Sportrac3), Toyo T1R, Goodyear Eagle F1, Conti's or Avon ZZ3's. Of the cheaper brands I have faith in, Hankook and Fulda (Goodyear) have always served me OK.

I'd stick with Yokohama Parada Spec 2's, they have been the best tyres I have had on a car.

Hi all looking for a set of tyres for my tt comps was looking at these on ebay

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/4x-Nankang-Sport-NS2-205-45-17-Quality-Tyres-2054517-/200555310658?pt=UK_Cars_Tyres_RL&hash=item2eb2072e42#ht_2052wt_1140

Should i stick with the 205 45 17 or should i go for a bit stretch with the 195 45 17????

decision decision

I've just got rid of half-worn Nankangs on the Lupo. They were, frankly, ******* awful. The 100BHP and not that much torque would unstick them with the slightest provocation. Replaced with Kumho KH31- so nothing very expensive, and the difference is stunning.

I personally like and use Uniroyal Rainmasters (Sports) but have heard praises about Barums and My local tyre man rates them very highly. Excellent price tyres
