Can seatbelt chime be disabled via VCDS?

Featured Replies

No, I don't drive without a seat belt, but when moving the car at low speed it does my head in!! Where is it in VCDS?

Sorry if this should be in VCDS section, but I was kinda hoping Wardy or Mike Holroyd might know and I'd get a quicker answer! :D

TIA

Yep, it can absolutely be turned off!

mikeholroyd did the business with VCDS for me :-)

Yep it can be turned off. When my Octy was being "interrogated" at the weekend it was there as an option.

Yes it can, if I remember correctly, controller 17, coding 07, it will then show you various options untick the box for seatbelt chime and then hit do it. No more chime....

Sorry, double posted

It can also be unplugged under the driver's seat if you haven't got VCDS

if I remember correctly, controller 17,

Correct

This was the only way to disable the chime on some MKI Octavia's, as some would not turn off despite coding it out with VCDS, this is something that Ross-Tech is aware of. Not sure if it applies to the MKII or not?

Thank you all! :)

I was clearly too slow this time ;)

Definitely one of the best things you can disable! First thing I turned off.

You might also find this doc useful.

That's excellent Wardy, cheers!

No worries. Glad I've redeemed myself ;)

I have unplugged mine which as I didn't have access to VCDS

Landed to read this thread as will be knocking this annoying noise off in my missus leon aswell. Drives me up the wall as when i put anything on the passenger seat then starts beeping. Is it the black plug under the seat that stops it then or is it on the same plug as the seat airbags (obviously i aint going to unplug them lol)?

Yes that's the one

(The airbag plug is the yellow one.)

Yes you only need to do the one under the drivers seat ;)

That would depend on the car, if you have the seatbelt warning on the passenger seat as well then both would need disconnecting surely?

You could be right there, i'm only going on what i did to my car, which was the driver's side.

Thanks again all-job done.

FWIW, it's exactly as described by Mike above, ie 1234567 needs to be changed to 1232567. :)

Sorry to resurrect this, jsut reading it as i've stripped the interior out of my octy and now know what you're talking about, but just for reference, am I right in thinking the following:

1) yellow connector is the airbag?

2) large black connector is the wiring for heating & electic seats?

3) small black connector is the one to disable to seatbelt chime?

(1&2 are on both seats, whereas 3 is definitely ONLY on the drivers side on my car)

The problem with this is that the airbag ECU is unable to detect the seat occupant because the buckle is not plugged into the stalk so its unlikley the airbag will be deployed in an accident.

But what about the passenger side then? There's airbags on that side too and if i'm correct in which connectors do what, then there's no reciprocal version on the passenger side.

The passenger doesnt have a chime so the bag will only be deployed if the belt is plugged into the buckle, unless it also has an airbag mat, I know the older BMW's had those im not sure about VAG tho.

So am I right with my surmise of what each connector does then Mike?

I'm interested in doing this, does anyone know if it's an MOT requirement?

You mean just disabling the chime using VCDS? The chime won't be a requirement, mine's passed through 2 mots without it now.
