Yellow VRS Colour Fade

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Im looking at buying a Fabia VRS and searching through this site has answered a lot of questions I had so thanks very much.

I was just wondering if yellow Fabia's fade as quick and as bad as all other yellow VAGs? I imagine it's the same, if not similar, colour. What's your experiences?

Thanks, Andrew

Welcome to this forum.

I don't have any direct experience of yellow ones - but Skoda did change the yellow in 2006 - from one of the catalogues for that year:

Lemon Yellow is being replaced by Sprint Yellow from week 22 (29th May 2006)

One could postulate this was because of fading problems with the earlier colour?

I think you will find that the bits that tend to fade are the plastic bits ie:- rear spoiler, fuel filler flap. As i understand these bits cannot be heated up sufficiently in the paint process due to being plastic they cannot get them hot enough because they would melt

I think

Iv got a 2006 model but with lemon yellow, no fade on mine apart from as said above the spoiler, went over with the rotary polisher the other day and it came up as good as new. Only other slight niggle iv noticed with the colour is it shows up tar like no other colour and the back bumper tends to fade around the exhaust section, iv checked and it comes up perfect tho, so as-long as you don't mind a polishing day once a month id still choose the colour again.

P.s. Incase you've come from a Seat its nothing like the Onvi yellow they have

You shouldn't experience any fade with the yellow on the body panels as it's not a single stage colour, i.e it has a lacquer coat.

As has already been said you may experience it on plastic/GRP bits like the spoiler or fuel flap as these don't go through the same paint process in the factory.

Ok cool thanks very much. The one i'm looking at is an earlier VRS so before the colour change. From the pictures it seems to have been looked after very well and colour looks pretty good (in the flesh could be a different story however!).

Thank god its different to Onvi Yellow - that stuff fades before it leaves the spray gun! It was the only reason I went for my current blue Cupra and not a yellow one!

And yeah I dont mind a good and regular polish (im a bit OCD with that sort of thing) so hopefully it'll stay nice.

Cheers guys

Bits of Black ones fade too :(

I used Poorboys Black Hole show glaze on the faded areas

and they came up a treat, great improvement overall, and on unfaded areas

the colour was "richer" after application.

Poorboys do an alternative version for pale cars

White Diamond, has anybody given that a try.

If the results are anything like the Black Hole then I doubt you'll be disappointed.

Finish with the LSP of your particular choice. (I use Colinite 476S myself... )

04 plate... ?

SF04 EEC?

and im pretty sure ovni and lemon yellow are pretty much identical??

my yellow fabia vrs was a pig, faded yellow plastics all over the shop... could never get them to match 100%

and i had to polish the rear tailgate once a week as it got covered in soot and any mark would show up on the bumper

I thought it was the ovni and sprint yellow were pretty much the same? My mate has a ibiza in ovni and its much brighter than lemon yellow for sure.

Matt

no wasnt ovni like lemon?

dull?

as mk1 octy's were the dull yellow?

the new sprint yellow is horrible though, its like radioactive yellow

Hummmmm, i dunno now lol. Google pictures make them look a bit dull (ibiza), but in real life my mates looks proper bright, like you say radioactive.
