is 500mb of internet enough?

Featured Replies

just upgraded my phone to a htc desire with 500mb of free internet. this is just a number to me, is it enough or will it get used up quickly?

Just use your WiFi connection at home and 500mb should be okay.

I very rarely use my Wifi at home (only if I'm downloading a large app or updating the operating system) and I've never gone over the 500mb limit.

just found out that with o2 i can also use bt open zone free too. thats good to know because i can pic that up at work!

Here's an app that will monitor your 3g usage and can set alarms if you get to close to the limit - 3G Watchdog.

I have just gone from unlimited to 500mb 'unlimited' with t-mobile where they just throttle if you go over. I have got 3g watchdog and in 2 weeks i have used 70mb so i think i will be ok. I don't stream iplayer or download so if you do that you will have to be careful otherwise you'll be fine.

FYI, that's only for new customers. If it's an existing contract they dropped the 500mb limits if you were on an 1gb/3gb tarrif before.

If it's a new contract then ignore that!

Its an upgrade so think it is now on the 500mb - not fussed either way as i use wifi at home and work.

It all depends on what you do with your phone. I frequently check my mail, a few web forums, news, weather - I seldom reach 100 MB per month. If you're on streaming media - music, newsreels - it will be different of course

500 MB is a hell of a lot on a mobile unless to watch a lot of video content :)

I've had my phone for 12months and I have only used 495MB in that time (used most days)

My iPhone 3GS 3G data usage stats currently show 549mb - sent and 6.3gb - received data. That's from November 2009 so 15 months worth.

I'm still on the proper unlimited o2 tarifs until i upgrade later this year. Also don't forget with o2 you also get use of 'the cloud' wifi hotspots as well as BTOpenzone. (Every MaccyD's is 'the cloud') emoticon-0148-yes.gif

Is your HTC an android phone, if so you can download an app that keeps track of your usage, & it will split it between 3g & wifi, & even show a total used.

This can also be configured to show a monthly use, setting the start date of the month = date of bills. eg. My bills are 21st month, so on 21st of each month the data counters are reset to zero, and clock up usage, as its used. I can also see a history by month by 3g by wi fi its very useful.

Looks like i cane mine they compared to some of you guys, went over my 500mb in my first month on o2. I never have my wifi switched on tho

Matt

Turn your wifi on and if you are with BT, use openzone :)

You don't have to be with BT to use openzone.... You get access to it on most of the networks... And openzone and The Cloud with o2. emoticon-0148-yes.gif

Dave.

my mobile internet usage for this february is

3469mb for 3g data use

1545mb for wifi

500mb is nowhere near enough for me as a stream and watch tv shows while i'm at the gym, i'm also constantly connected to facebook and e-mails. I'm also a bit of a geek and have rooted my android device so i am always flashing the latest update from cyanogenmod, and downloading each update to my device uses 80mb each time.
