Best price for Michelin Pilot Sport 3

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Checking my tread depths today as the front nearside has a small bulge in the side wall and some very odd looking wear. So I need to get it changed, along with the other front one. I think I'm sold on Michelin Pilot Sport 3s after all the posting on here about them - the current Dunlops are rubbish IMO.

Can anyone suggest the cheapest place fully fitted? Cheapest I can find is KwikFit for £295.85 for 2 x 225/40/18 Z. Seems higher than what others have paid. I am a Costco member, but can't find out prices online.

Any help appreciated.

Dan

Have you tried camskill.co.uk, they have them for approx £127 each, and £5 for delivery, making a total of £259, however you will then pay a fitter approx £10 per tyre, making a complete total of £279. Not much of a saving on Kiwkfit, but a saving none the less.

Did the rounds of a few local tyre places (local independants and national chains) yesterday looking for exactly the same. Discovered on Friday that my front nearside was down to the wear indicators. After reading various threads on here, and some online reviews I decide to get prices for Michelin PS3's, Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta's and Uniroyal Rainsport 2's.

I am a Costco member too, and can tell you that their price is £147.58 each.

Camskill were the cheapest I found too, but I didn't fancy taking them somewhere to be fitted (I'm sure it's more than £10 each to get them fitted, balanced etc here, by the time they add on valves, disposal etc, and if there are any problems after they are fitted who do you blame?).

I ended up ordering from Tesco Tyres. It's really just Black Circles under a Tesco banner, so price is exactly the same (£301.52 for 2) but you also get 602 clubcard points. This was the best option for me as my Costco is 70 miles away, and I don't really trust Kwik-Fit after they damaged the alloys on my last car.

£150 each seems to be about the going rate for the PS3's everywhere. The Vredestains and Uniroyal's are both considerably cheaper but I'm hoping the PS3's will last longer. Was tempted by the Uniroyals at just £89 from Camskill though - most other places are around £110-£125 fitted.

Agree about the Dunlops being rubbish. How many miles did you get from them ?

I've bought some on ebay recently for £122 eac delivered - just got to pay for fitting

That's great, thanks for all the info and the Costco price.

I'll get a quote for fitting locally today and then decide what to do. KwikFit charge £11.50 per tyre for fitting and disposal.

I only bought the car in November at 19000 miles and we've done about 4000 miles in it so far, I know the fronts had been changed once already. It seems the Dunlops don't wear well.

I noticed Kwik Fit were £11.50 online for "Standard valve and balance" - I wasn't sure if the same price would apply if you brought in your own tyres (I'm sure some work colleagues said they were more than that to get some winter tyres swapped over). Anyway, I wouldn't trust them with my wheels after the last time :(

I bought mine last September with about 9,000 miles on it - it's now at 13,600 miles and the fronts (original Dunlops) are done.

Recently ordered some tyres from Camskill (Falken 452s) but it was a bit of a nightmare getting someone to fit them. I'd be surprised if Kwik Fit would fit them, as when I called my local one they said their policy is to only fit tyres they've supplied, and mumbled something about not being insured if they damaged tyres I'd brought in.

It was the same for National, and for a couple of other local places I called.

In the end, I got a mobile fitters called ETyres (http://www.etyres.co.uk/) to come and do them, which they were more than happy to do, but it cost me £15 per tyre, so I only saved around £20 in the end.

Incidentally, the service from Camskill was great, delivered within 48hrs of ordering (would've been 24 if I'd have been at home the first day!) and received 5 emails from them informing me of progress!

I decided to go with KwikFit in the end as they had stock and I wanted to get it sorted. Wasn't worth the wait or hassle for £20.

I will have to check out their handy work tonight as my wife's taking it in today. Hope the PS3s live up to their reputation. Now I just need to get the geometry sorted!

Thanks for the advice.

Dan

Best of luck. I wouldn't trust my local Kwik Fit with my wheels TBH.

And I certainly know that policy is not to fit customer-supplied tyres. At my nearest branch anyway - has been the case for 5+ yrs. Something about insurance - not sure how true that is, but anyway....

Hi Wardy,

KwikFit supplied the tyres too. Checked out their work tonight and all looks fine. The other local shops aren't much to write home about either unfortunately.

Dan

Good to hear. Glad you got sorted emoticon-0148-yes.gif

€133 a corner over here in Ireland. I hope they are good as what I usually get, BF Goodridge, I find them excellent.

Car is now remapped so all along i never had 2nd gear spinning but now its back. My previous vRS TDI Mapped also used to be a bitch to get the power down. These PS3 on the TFSI are feeling good at the moment. test is how long will they last....

Replaced the winter tyres last week. Went for Mich PS3 225 40 18 Y XL. Cheapest place in Bristol Ablefit Tyres at Bath Road Brislington £129 per corner all in price.

Decent price that. Good work

ive been looking myself for tyres 225/45/17 and i was set to buy 2 or 4 of ps3s but i think there too much. i currently have michelin pilot primacy hp on the car. was on them when i brought it. but i have read very good reviews on Hankook eve s1. german mag rated it number 1 for 2011 for wet and dry braking. these are a lot cheaper and worth a look on camskill and black circles fitted and delivered. cheers ryan. ill put the link up if anyone is interested?

PS3s aren't in the same league as the Primacy, hence them being more money. You're unlikely to get as much mileage out of them compared with the Primacy either, as they're a grippier, sports orientated tyre.

If you reckon that Hankook will fit your needs and the reviews are good then go for it emoticon-0148-yes.gif

Been told by a costco member the buy 4 get 20% off deal is coming very soon either this booklet coming now or the next one

here is the link , have a look at this review from a top german car magazine.

hankook tyre review

the pilot primacy hp are even dearer than the ps3s though, the car has done 21,000 so far and there is 3mm on rears and 4mm on fronts as i rotated the wheels. i don't know if there any good the michelin pilot primacy hp? my boss has ps3s on his audi which are 18s and he says there good. but if you look at the tyre review vie just posted i'd like people thoughts ? im suprised from the hankook review as ive seen them in the top 10 in 2010 reviews but not took a number 1 spot.

It sounds like I'm really lucky. Everyone seems to rate Camskill on prices. Well I can say that they are and am lucky enough to live a mile away from there garage. I would recommend them to anyone. The lads in there are great and very very knowledgable. I was out in my fraud mondeo when the exhaust bushes snapped leaving me stuck with a 2 year old in the back of the car. I'd just been in for new tyres. So i give them a ring and they were with me in 5 minutes with the right bits. 5 minutes later I was back on the road. I was told to settle up when I was passing. I dropped my daughter at nursery and went straight round and settled up with them. Great old fashioned customer service, reliable and good value. I can't speak highly enough of them. You also see the same blokes working there year in year out unlike the big name places where staff change every week :thumbup::thumbup::rofl:

So book yourself a weekend in the lakes and while your here call down to Whitehaven and get some new treads on your car. What you save it'll pay for your B&B does that sound like a plan :giggle:

P.s I don't work for them just a happy customer

Hi,

I bought two PS3s at Costco Reading last week, they were £134 each fitted which included being nitrogen filled and the existing rears re-ballanced and moved to front. Thoroughly good job too, would def recommend.

Just wanted to post back about Kwik Fit as I've just found out all my alloys are buckled. Kwik Fit didn't inform me of this when I had the tyres fitted which I am surprised about. Just a word of warning. The alloys are visibly buckled on the inside edges.

Had 2 fitted today at Merit Tyre... £129.00 each.. Google Merit Tyre to see if they have a branch near. Think if I had prepaid online would have been bit cheaper but they were in stock and went with that price to save any more web searching etc..

and by the way it is bliss finally losing the droning and road noise from the old Bridgestones :-)
