Full service history

Having gone from a Mk4 Golf TDI Anniversary with 200bhp which i had cherished and kitted out with the highest spec mods this seemed like some what of a downgrade for me. Having sold the car the day before i was quickly on the look out for a new one. I was originally looking at the grande Punto 1.9tdi 130BHP. The night before going to purchase one i was trawling through the forums for reviews and as you would expect the reviews pretty much lived up to the FIAT name. Although the car been fairly new people said they had nothing buy trouble. I suddenly had a big change of heart. I had always been a fan of the German VAG scene having had another Golf 1.8t, Seat ibiza Cupra and Audi s3 before the Anni but a Skoda had never really appealed to me. I went on Auto trader and Piston heads for a look. Most of the ones i saw were around 5500 - 6500 for one with similar mileage maybe a bit newer. On the off chance i looked on EBay to see if there were any local auctions for one. Scrolling through the pages i came across one up for 5k about 20 miles from me. It had only been on there an hour and it sounded like the seller hadnt had much luck with none paying bidders in the past. I gave the guy a call at 12.30 that night :) Basically i told him i was interested and had cash.

All seemed a bit too good to be true for the price, mileage but i thought i would go for a look anyway.

We arrived to the car sitting on a driveway nice and shiney. From the back there were a few stickers (diesel driver & Collin Mccray thing) not to my taste but you have to look past that. Looking over the car i noticed it seemed to be very clean. Popping the bonnet it was also clean. No evidence of oil leaks, mayo around the oil cap. There was also an OMP strut brace which i was surprised was there due to it been a rep car before this guys ownership and he didnt exactly come accross to me as a boy racer. He informed me he was a member of an owners club and had only put them on as everyone recmmended it on the net. 3 Good tyres and the wheels seemed to be in a fair condition for a 6 year old car. The interior was very clean, had been used as a commuter to the chaps local work place. Brand new Sony bluetooth stereo and Ipod connection. He explained it had been sat for a couple of months due to the purchase of a Chelsea tractor! I took the car for a test drive making sure i got in every gear and thurpughly tested the breaks, stearing and most importantly accelerator pedal. I was pleasantly surprised with the standard pull. Ok it wasnt quite as nippy as my previous Golf but there was definately potential. When we got back i managed to haggle him down to 4500 cash which i thought was a very impressive snatch! All the better for my wallet :)

Gave it a fair, spirited run on the way home to see how well she hugged the road and was very pleased. The strut brace seemed to make a lot of difference, a bit too much to be honest. When i got home gave it a good going over and noticed some bright yellow powerflex bushes and a nice OMP rear anti roll bar. Even better for me. Turned into even more of a snatch.

I immediately got to work giving it a good clean and polish! Came up nicely. That night i got on the net and ordered some HID headlights, Bosch flat wipers and some wind deflectors. Day after Monday 17th, i had the windows professionally tinted. Had the Mrs's hair dryer out and peeled some of the ridiculous stickers from the rear and also removed the OEM Fabia badge!

Tuesday 18th i ordered some Spax lowering springs and set about de-chroming! Removed the grill surround (many thanks to instructions on here) and got sanding. Primed up the grille and sprayed black, few coats a day. Left that a week and added some 'super strong laquer' was really surprised with the quality of my job considering i'm a complete ammateur. During this time my Ebay 'goodies' had arrived. The HID's were a bit tricky to fit and hide the ballasts. I noticed there was a lot of glare so i immediately got on the internet and ordered a flyeyes kit.

The wind deflectors and wipers looked nice on the car

Fab5.jpg

The lowering springs were the next to arrive, these were fitted by a friend but i was not very pleased with the outcome, bit of a bouncy ride. (Coilies will be next on the list) Leon Cupra splitter and fly eyes kit on the car.

The car was starting to come along nicely. My original plan was to spray the OEM wheels Anthracite but this never materialised. Went a bit quiet on the modding front for a month as i decided what to do. I trawled through Briskoda looking for inspiration. Originally decided to go for the open mouthed look but i decided against it as i was not planning any engine mods or FMIC untill the money situation was a bit better. Iv always been a fan of BBS wheels and got looking through the net. I saw a few pics of LM's on a number of cars but no Fabia's. Completely out the blue i had a call of a friend asking if i would sell my OEM wheels as he had bought an Octavia with some steelies on. These went in the next few days for £200 and i managed to find a bit to purchase my BBS LM (reps). Didnt fancy paying the 3k for genuine ones. I bought these from BMautosports for 450 with BBS centre caps, new nuts an tyres (would recommend them to anyone. Mark down there is awesome to deal with and they have some really nice replica set ups). Tyres were put on a few days after 205/40/17 on the 8" wheels gives a nice stretch and an awesome finish.

I have since decided to go for the euro look and after purchsing my coilies and after that smooth the number plate recess. I think that will be all i will do to looks as i wouldnt want to go over the top. That way i can also start on the engine :):):)

Looks great mate B) always had a soft spot for LMs.

Yeah there gorgeous wheels. Always had a soft spot for Mk1 GTI's and the whole 'old school look' and think these fit the bill.

Thanks for pointing that out mate, it will play on my mind everytime i look at her now ha. Surgery might now be on the cards!

Afraid not, never got round to registering on there plus i didnt want anyone copying the looks of m previous Anniversary! Like to be unique B)

Noooooo I'm not the only one now lol, obviously I love your car as it's a double of mine apart from mine being lower. Lol.

Don't like your back lights sorry mate. Also I don't understand why people debadge the Fabia but not the VRS I think it looks pants

I was planning on taking that off when I get the bumper smoothed! Give me until the end of the week mate and mine will be low! Well as low as the undertray will let me.

Saying that a bit of scraping shows your trying hard!!!

I'm going darker with the back lights as well. I know it's not to everyones taste but then it wouldn't be custom!

Looks lovely pal, So envious of the Lms... Looks almost as if you brought them new? if you did could you share the place?

looks low in the first few pictures! what springs are they spax? what drop are they?

  • Author

Yeah they are. 50mm. Put them on start of feb when I was still running standard wheels so it was lower! I am upgrading to coilies this week so will be putting these up for sale!

  • Author

They were brand new. Saw quite a few for sale 2nd hand but couldn't bring myself to do it. Like buying your mrs second hand shoes :) my friend owns a performance shop and got them for me. £450 and another £30 for BBS centre caps

looking good...

but i'd get them LM's off and give them a couple of coats of lacquer!

lacquer is mega weak on reps...

  • Author

Can you recommend any and will it not ruin the polished lip

the polished lip on these is lacquered anyways!

i have bbs reps on my lupo 2 years old and they are fubard...

stones chip the lacquer as its really thin and they start to corrode

heres what a state mines are in

Couldn't you split them first? Only do the middle bits?

Looks good though, just not a fan of smoked lights. Never got why you'd decrease the performance of one of the cars best safety devices. :S Rear wiper easy to sort if you've not done it before - pop the cap up, then there's a nut you losen off, reposition, tighten and refit cap.

reps are not proper split rims... there solid with fake bolts, my ones are anyways and id say the lm reps will be the same

my mates lenso (fake bbs) are the same jase! hes only had them on one winter! fronts are fine but rears especially the one on the drivers side rear is not pretty!

Ah, my bad! Would explain the price difference too I guess.

Get the door strips off and colour code the handles. :D

Nice car mate... So cool that there's lots of build threads on here now. :D

Very nice looking car fella. love the wheels. Quite like the rear lights too

I was planning on taking door strips off this weekend but i'm a bit wary of doing it due to some people having problems with bubbling paint work underneath

What are everyones opinions of s3 mirrors? I'm 50/50 about them? Think they would go with the chrome lip on the lm's

Nice, wheels look smart :)

Satin silver S3 mirrors may look good, polsihed is too bling
