Rooting.... Desire HD on Vodafone.

Featured Replies

Just got myself a desire hd from vodafone as an upgrade, however there is some bloody annoying Vodafone 360 bloatware kindly installed on it that is unfortunately unable to be uninstalled, and more annoyingly there is no option to stop it using my data plan to constantly keep doing update checks!

Would rooting my Desire HD enable me to be able to uninstall this data thieving piece of crap bloatware? or would some other surgery need to be performed?

I'm entirely sure what all this rooting stuff is all about to be honest? can i just root and then leave it at that or do i need to root and then stick different roms/firmware etc on? hmmmm.... maybe i should just leave it well alone......

Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers

Steve

Send a PM to JohnRS Steve and he'll most likely be able to help out with further info.

No problemo!

Always happy to help a fellow Android-er get there phone to a state that it should be in anyway!

I have used a leedroid ROM on my Desire (not the HD) for many many months now and it really is a great ROM. Just the right balance between stock and some fettling been done!

I have had to un-root and return mine to stock for the time being as it's going off for a warranty repair on the earpiece due to crackling/rattling.

If you do ever need to do this it is very straight forward and requires just plugging the phone into your pc and running and RUU on the pc. These can be found on XDA devs and they fully restore the phone to stock as they flash the system, radio, recovery, hboot... the lot!

Just saw this, glad you got it sorted. It is a fairly simple task to do isn't it.

Have you tried the leaked Gingerbread ROM yet? I had a go yesterday - I like some of the features but I like my custom LeeDroid Kernel/Rom combo too much so I've reverted back. Once he has tweaked it a bit more I'll undoubtedly flash it.

As far as ROMs go which one did you go for. I like the stock look so I, like JohnBoy and Phil am a LeeDroid fan. ARD is very good but too far from stock for my liking. The only thing I have different is a power notification bar and battery icon.

I like having conversations with Iphoneers and then showing them things like this:

or if you like benchmarks:
