Audi coilpack recall, turned into official Skoda Recall.

Featured Replies

Does this just apply to the VRS 180 engine or the 4x4 150 too?

Is there an age limit at all, or is it really just if your coil packs are rev J or L?!

It is not really linked to VRS but any car taking a particular coilpack through the whole VAG group.

If you call Skoda and supply your reg they will tell you if your car is applicable which more than likely is. Then they will ask you to visit dealer to check.

i'm booked in on tues and my local dealer reckons it will take an hour and a half :S if they just give me the coils i could do it in under 15 mins i'm sure

Can this still be done?

Can this still be done?

Yup, mine was done a couple of weeks ago when one of mine (originals) failed. Got 4 shiny new ones free gratis

As mentioned before though, your car has to meet certain criteria to be eligable.

Ok, I know looking through the history, it's had two replacements at certain points in its life, the others though I'm not sure about, what do I need to look out for a certain letter on them?

It applies to all 1.8T engines, apart from the very very early ones with bolt down packs. Yours should be covered if it has the affected coils in it.

My 4x4 is booked in monday at skoda for the recall. Mine is a Y reg also

You can read the P/N on the coil pack for a reference

should read something like:

06b905115 "*"

the "*" digit being the reference of revision of the coil pack.

Example:

06B905115 "L"

The VAG dealership are replacing older revision for the latest 06B905115 "R"

These coil packs are mainly fitted to the 1.8T engines in the VAG group but some other versions as well.

You will need to call Skoda though, as you may have fitted aftermarket/non OEM coil packs which Skoda will not swap.

Skoda will advise you if you car / engine is covered straight away, but will then ask to see car to check the revision you have and or if genuine coil packs.

If you check your car and have fitted lower than the latest revision this at least will help you determine the likely hood for Skoda to replace for you.

hope this helps

So is it any revisions older than R are getting replaced?

they will fit D revision coils

they will replace any coils apart from those the are R or D revision

So is it any revisions older than R are getting replaced?

As stated. Skoda will replace any older revision with R. R is current revision. Exception is Skoda will not replace revision D as D is revision just before R and deemed works ok.

Just spoke to Skoda and apparently mine has never been done and is eligible for it.

He mentioned they'd need to check which ones I have first. Apparently it'll also take them 3.5 hours to fit. Is it not just the 4 coils!? I had them out at the weekend in 30 minutes and I'm not mechanically minded at all!

Just called Skoda, mine is covered, however they need to check what ones they are first. Booked in next Wednesday :).

Mine was done in half hour at Skoda

3.5 hours! no way.

not replacing engine as well???

They say 3.5 hours so you dont wait around for them to finish. If they say half an hour people turn up and expect it to be done straight away at the time it was booked in for which isn't always possible

Booked in at a different dealer next Tuesday, happy days.

Just a pity I bought 1 from Euro Car Parts at the weekend!

it's a 2 min job in the parking lot

I'm well aware of how long it takes but garages book things in weeks in advance so they have to plan for things going wrong. What if they told you it was a 30 minute job and booked you in for 11am and you turn up with no way of leaving expecting them to do it while you wait but the job before yours was a flywheel change and one of the bolts sheared. Do you expect them to stop doing the other persons car to do yours? No they cant leave it unfinished even if it takes longer than expected.

So they give you a window that your 30 minute job will be done in and ring you when it's finished. It's not rocket science.

Think the way you described that Skoda quoted 3.5 hours.

Skoda should probably state pick car up in 3.5 hours which is not stating it will take that long but based on the jobs the garage have in the queue.

You surely would not expect a dealership to really quote 3.5 hours to do that job regardless of issues found.

I would also expect dealers to phone before you arrive if there is a issue.

Bit of a pointless debate to this thread really.

So happy new year folks and hope you get your free parts...

If the first job in the morning runs an hour over it's not going to be feasible for them to ring everyone and tell them is it and even if they did people get annoyed when things are delayed. What I'm saying is that unless they try to charge for 3.5 hours labour (which is unlikely since its a FOC recall) then they are just covering their arse by saying 3.5 hours.

People have a habit of hanging around thinking that their car will be taken immediately but 3.5 hours is a bit much.

Contacted my dealer last week and they replaced coil packs on my 2002 Octavia vrs under the recall and no cost.

  • 4 weeks later...

My 2003 Octavia VRS Estate suffered a coil pack failure a few weeks ago. Diagnosed it using the old laptop and everything was sweet as I'd been given a spare one by a mate who part Xd his Cupra R and had bought a spare post the first recall. When I bought the car in 2006 I checked mine had been done and they were all REV L. The other day I was giving it some beans, embarrassing some more expensive jelly molds and suddenly the power dipped followed by a flashing ECL and an horrendous juddering misfire. Limped home and got a P0300-35-00 multiple misfire code. Checked all the plugs and no 4 was all wet. Then thanks to this forum I found out about the second coil pack recall, so phoned Vindis of Bury St Edmunds. They checked the vehicle details on the system and said straight away, bring it in that afternoon they'll do it for free under the recall. Luckily I'd kept the old 'L' from a couple of weeks ago so all four replaced and now have a spare again. One word of warning though, as they wouldn't just hand me the new packs in exchange I had to drive the 16 miles there in a car that was missing so badly I could only just coax 40 out of it. When I got there I could smell something burning and upon looking under the car was amazed to see the cat GLOWING BRIGHT RED! the tarmac was smoking and after 5 minutes fanning it with a Haynes Manual (finally found a use for it) I could relax. Now the car is sowing machine smooth again and the slight ticking on the radio has disappeared. Thanks again to all who have posted before.

I emailed my local dealership to ask if mine (a 55 reg vrs) was still outstanding.

Heard nothing..

Then received a call from Skoda UK customer services, they told me to pop into Rivervale Skoda in Portslade.

Dropped in yesterday, it appears that it not been done already, so its booked in for next Thursday, get a car while they are playing with mine..

Boom..

  • 2 weeks later...

I rang Skoda last week about this to see if mine had been done previously. I was told that there was no outstanding recalls for my car and that it was only the 2.0 engine that got a recall for coilpacks. So I dont really know if mine has been done or not :-

It's not a recall, that's why. Search back through the thread and you'll find the service notice number (ignition coil campaign number ****). They are obliged to honour it.
