i'm booked in on tues and my local dealer reckons it will take an hour and a half :S if they just give me the coils i could do it in under 15 mins i'm sure

part number is printed on the plastic where the wiring connects to the coilpacks - cannot remember if you have to disconnect to see it or not

Yep that's right. When you remove the engine cover, gently push the plugs back with a flat screwdriver and then you will see the serial printed on the top of the CPs.

I posted a pic further up in post 364. You need to unbolt the metal bracket which covers the last CP but this is really easy.

My serials don't even have a letter at the end so I don't know if I qualify?

Whoooop whoooop, Put it in to Henry Bros in Glasgow today to check them, Got new coil Packs Yeh :D

Even got a courtesy car too :smirk:

But in for a penny in for a pound I asked about a warranty claim for the rust on the tail gate either side of the number plate. my car was registered 30 January 2002 so pushing it alittle but hey its still in warranty :giggle:

You should have seen their faces, wish I took a photo.

wish me luck with that one!

New coil packs fitted today on my 2002 Octy VRS by Caffyns of Tunbridge wells Thanks to John who also fitted new connector which had been previously super glued! And all free of charge. Thankyou Skoda.

Big Phil - I'd love to know how the warranty claim on rust either side of number plate works out - I have the exact same problem. My car is a 53 plate 04 vrs.

I was going to get a price from a local painter to fix it up but I wonder has anybody else had any success with warranty claims? Thanks.

Hi Harry?

I have another post about the tailgate rust warranty here:

http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/225695-rusty-tailgate-and-warranty/

but the short version is they phoned yesterday to say SKODA WILL Honour the warranty, even though there is only days left in it WOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOO  . Hope this helps chief. Its weird how some have had major problems with getting a claim and some like me have had no issues, but they did say when they looked at it if there was any sign of repair, or had been done before that they wouldn't touch it.

Dropped into Wayside Milton Keynes and they confirmed my 03 Octy vrs was eligible for the coil replacement. Booked in last Friday, job done in an hour. They even took me to work, picked me up again and washed the car - all foc. Excellent service and, best of all, sorted the hesitancy on pick-up that the previous dealer had failed to sort. Ace!

Mines booked in next week, takes an hour? Thought it'll be 20 mins max! Anyone in York got any coils just incase someone changed mine before I brought the car? Lol

Booked mine in for the 7th @ Platinum Bath, apparently they couldnt do it on a saturday.

I've got three spares - pm me if you are after any

Thanks m8 will do, gonna check it tomorrow hopefully

Shame i didnt see this before i bought my 04 vrs

Luckily i went skoda for a window regulator and the guy asked me straight off if it had new coils ect and i had a set fitted on the friday that week

Pretty on the ball on this recall it seems i didnt realise it effected so many cars

I've been going to the dealers since I brought the car nearly 3 years ago they've never checked about the recall. Wasn't till I asked did they say it was on the list

Maybe i just lucked out then haha

the recall has been on the go since at least march last year...

Good job Phil - glad to hear it! I'm going to try my local dealer here in NI.

Mine is getting quite bad to the point where the paint bubble burst when I examining the lid - the bubble had cracked and there's rust underneath. The left side behind the plastic handle trim is also bubbling to, so I imagine there's more in behind it. I'll post a photo when I've a chance.

At the moment I'm waiting to get the car scanned as my EML is on and flashing. A previous scan threw up pre lambda sensor error (which was replaced last Friday). Car running great, then yesterday the EML is back on (flashing sometimes) and the car is real juddery below 2000 rpm, settles a bit after that.

I'm wondering if it's the coilpacks in which case I might qualify for the service recall (funny enough my codes don't have a letter after them and they are genuine?). So hopefully Ithe dealer will be able to kill 2 birds at the same time? My other theory is that the MAF is either done or real dirty - I want to unplug it to try.

Anyway, I'll post an update when I've got some pics and error codes. Thanks.

BTW - Harry is our son's fish...

Mine was booked in on Saturday for coil packs but the previous owner messages me and told me he changed them 6 months ago so no need.

Must say though....Simpsons at Preston has great service and are so much better than others I've had to deal with

just had all my coils replaced under warranty!! they also washed and hoovered the car out,did a health check

didnt find anything wrong, was well happy with service. Well done HAYSELDEN SKODA DONCASTER!

mines booked in with Autosales Skoda in burntwood. they knew about it and seemed very helpfull.

i emailed originally to ask about it and they replied quickly an i rang to book and they remembered my email convo.

I know it says previously that they dont flash the ecu but i just want to double check as i dont want to loose the map on it. anyone with a map had it done ?

brill cheers :D

Having my packs done right now, had a quick check and found one wasn't a vw one but luckily I got a couple as spares from a member for Nowt a while back so that went on, the other spare is on the passenger seat just incase the one under the breather hose isn't a vw one so all good lol

shaweet Raf_ looks like theres a lot of coil packs at Skoda/VW going out of date needing off loaded.

Wouldn't give me a new one for my spare one. Oh well you can but try lol
