Warm starting problem Octavia diesel

Featured Replies

Hi Guys

Just wondering whether anyone here might be able to offer any advice.

My 1999 Octavia TDi (110) sometimes takes what I would consider to be rather a lot of cranking to start when warm.

It's never failed to start and it always starts OK from cold.

If anyone has any clue as to what might be the cause I'd be interested to hear it.

Thanks in advance

Chris

Glow plugs come to mind on this. If you're able to get a VCDS (VAG-COM) scan run on the car, if there's an issue with them it should have been logged.

I had a slight issue like this on my Octy2, but not enough for it to be a nuisance - and that was logged as an error code by the ECU. I ended up having a new set put in during recent engine work, and the problem hasn't re-surfaced.

CTS, sticky anti-shudder valve could be two candidates. The latter used used to cause me problems for a short stop when hot (such as filling the car with fuel).

Ah, I also have an intermittently working temperature gauge. Does it use the same sensor?

Yep the CTS has 2 outputs one to the ecu, & the other to the temp gauge.

As Paul says. The new sensor is green, rather than black. Get a proper one from a dealer (and an o-ring), avoid the cheapo ones from ebay seems to be the general advise.

One set of outputs can report something totally different, or the whole sensor could have failed, which sounds more likely in your case.

jorily have genuine ones on ebay for a competitive price
