Yeti on the way...

Featured Replies

Well just put a deposit down on a 110bhp 2.0 TDi Yeti Experience in Mato Brown. Have been told it'll be a 9 week wait for it to arrive. Been driving the same car (VW Polo 1.0 Petrol) for the last 15 years - so a couple of months more doesnt bother me too much!! Really looking forward to picking it my new SM all the same. Went for two test drives (one in the Greenline and one in the 110bhp 2.0 Tdi) and it totally blew the competition away.

First thing to add will be a tow bar and bike rack to carry the MTB and roadbike around the place. Cant wait for hours of fun playing with the bells n whistles - her indoors will probably think I've eloped with the new car! :giggle:

Anyways, at least the countdown's begun...

9 Weeks?

What did you think of the Greenline?

I take it you aren't in the UK.

My thoughts exactly, who did you pay and how much did you pay them, lol

Am based in the Republic of Ireland. Dealer told me 8/9 weeks for the 2.0 TDi whereas the Greenline has a longer lead time due to the engine unit being used in several different models. I'm hoping its not gonna stretch out for ages and ages...but we'll see.

Liked the Greenline - its exactly the same price as the 110bhp 2.0 Tdi that I went for, but wasn't keen on not having a spare wheel (as per the Greenline). The stop/start was impressive - first time I'd driven a car with it. Wasn't intrusive at all - the minute you touched the clutch to put the car into gear it fired back up again and was ready to go before I was. Still, think I'm a bit old fashioned so went with the 2.0 Tdi instead. There's a little more poke in the two litre though and this is also reflected in the higher MPG.

In terms of what I paid - dont ask!! I'll be paying it off for years! But the finance agreement available is very competitive I have to say.

With that sort of delivery I can see a lot of potential Yeti owners moving to Ireland! :)

I'm guessing that with the problems Ireland's economy currently has, and rapidly growing unemployment, that demand for high value consumer goods is down, and therefore there is not the competition for the car that we're experiencing in the UK.

Anybody tempted to do the deal in Ireland because it seems to be quicker would have to bear in mind they'd get a KPH speedo.

You'll love it Hatcho. I plan to visit some friends in Galway later in the year in Betty ... look out for us!

Congratulations Hatcho, I ordered my 1.2 TSI S on 28 March, I was quoted 6 weeks to delivery ha ha, not even got a build date yet. :mmm:

Gerry

Well I had some unexpected good news today apparently my 1.2si Elegance ordered on 9th February has been built and awaiting shipment, dealer thinks it should be with them around the 3rd of May. Excitement off the scale!!

Andy

Welcome hatcho. You will love the 110 TDi Yeti, had mine since last June, no problems,(DPF or otherwise) really fun to drive.

Funnily enough its quite the opposite - dealer was telling me that sales are picking up quite nicely over here. Scrappage scheme is a factor but people are simply starting to spend again. It could be that the allocation of vehicles to Ireland is higher per capita than the UK (if thats how the system works).

Either way it suits me sir!!

Might be worth looking into buying over here - the Irish core price is one of the lowest in Europe - its the VAT and VRT (Vehicle Registration Tax) that pushes the price way up...but you guys would be subject to it as you'd be exporting the car.

Let me know when yer coming over - I'll point you in the direction of some nice roads between the east coast and Galway...make the journey in Betty even better!

LOL - Sure I have some red diesel sitting round here somewhere!! :giggle: Let me know when you plan to come over and I'll recommend some nice scenic roads to take on your way to Mayo. Do a fair bit of biking around the country so am always on the lookout for the 'long way round' to places...

Well it is with great sadness that I have to announce the passing of my Yeti. Only five months old and she's now on her way to 'Yeti heaven' :'(

We had some torrential rain here last week (a months worth in 4 hours!)and she took in water both into the engine and also into the cabin as well. Water levels outside the car rose almost to the door handles! When she went to the dealers to be assessed water was found in the sump and all sorts of electrical problems (central locking not working, amplifier damaged etc)occuring due to the water getting into the interior. So repair isnt an option and reliability might be an issue later on anyways.

My hope is to order another Yeti same spec, colour etc to get me back to where I was. Yeti ticked every box and I was really looking forward to years of enjoyment in it. Alas, twas not to be! If funds permit, I might even try to upgrade the engine to the 170bhp 2.0Tdi (had the 110 before). So it a case of watch this space!

Jaysus Hatcho, that's a right kick in the mebs. Were you parked in an undergorund car park?

I know the rain was bad around Dublin region and that many parked in apartment underground car parks experienced similar to yourself.

Hopefully your insurance company write it off and replace with new considering it's only 5 months old.

Aye tis a sickener alright. She was parked outdoors at ground level - but the floods were mad! Have heard from ins company that she's a Cat D write off so won't return to the road. I'll be finding out what the compensation will be over the next couple of days...tis a waiting game for now...

hope it doesn't effect your insurance renewal on what ever car you get next.

did you have gap insurance? I always buy it now with a new car ever since this happened to one of my previous Octavias.
