Powerbox on 1.4 TDi

Featured Replies

I will be fitting an IP power box to my 1.4 TDi this weekend and would appreciate advice on a couple of points first. Probably very basic questions, but I'd rather know before I start....

1: Despite specifying a Fabia 1.4 TDi, they have sent me a box labelled as for the polo 1.4 TDi. Is this exactly the same engine?

2: How exactly do I remove the plastic engine cover to get to the wiring I need?

3: Does the 1.4 have the same clutch and gear box as the 1.9. i.e will it take the increased torque without frying?

4: The powerbox has jumpers inside to choose the desired fuel map. Anybody know how to find out which does what?

I will be calling East Coast Racing to ask the same questions but would appreciate some independent advice as well. Many thanks for any help you can give.

For Q1, yes they are the same engine.

For Q3, I think they are different from the 1.9's but should cope with the increase from the tuning box.

I don't know about the other 2 questions... :)

Rob.

I suspect engine cover removal is same as 1.9 and you just ease it towards you, unclip the front and then unhook it at the back and it just lifts off. If it wires in like the power box I have (not from IP) it'll plug in to the fuel temp sensor which is left of the air filter at the front of the engine block..... :)

Thanks guys, that's really helpfull. I'll go and try pulling the engine cover off this afternoon.

According to the instructions I got, (which of course refer to the VW engine bay layout :( ) I need to plug the unit in to the round screw on connector on the side of the cylender head. Which of course I wont be able to see until I get the cover off.

Anybody got any experience of using this box with the 1.4? It would be kinda' handy to know what the jumper settings in the box do!

Let me know how you get on with fitting - ie. ease, time taken etc.

Have got a 1.4 Polo and may try the same.

Thanks for the advice guys, I've found that the engine cover just pulls up and comes off nice ' easy. Wasn't too sure at first but it comes off nicely with a good firm tug. ;)

I'll probably be doing the install at the weekend and will post back with pictuers and a report on how it goes. Only problem I can see is finding somewhere to tie the box to. From the pictures of the polo engine bay it looks like there's far more space under the hood than in my fabia. :(

Now where did I put them cable ties.........

Where did you source you powerbox from?

Got it from these guys.....

I know its an expensive option and I could probably have picked one up cheaper on the net, but after speaking to my local dealer they say this is the only one which they will accept as not screwing my warranty.

And another question. Once I've fitted the powerbox will I see any gains from making the engine breathe more easily? i.e. green panel filter and Cupra air intake?

Depends how smokey it is with the tuning box on. I've just done the Green Panel filter but I may get round to doing the intake at some point. I doubt you'll see a significant difference :D

Stay tuned for fitting experiences and photos......

Just have to find somewhere discrete to hide the box so wife won't see it. She'd hit the bloody roof!

Hi, Try revo technik they do an excellent remap for the 1.4 tdi pd 75 bhp engine,

John

There is a chance your Mrs may notice the car suddenly taking off a little faster ;)
