Homeplugs on PS3

Featured Replies

Anyone running the 200 Mbps versions with 1080 media ??

Do they work ?

Might be trying them soon.... if I re-locate my home server. Wouldn't be connected *directly* to the PS3 though.

Setup would be:

Server>Powerline>Powerline>Router>PS3.

Now they look more my thing, 1000 Mbps could be cool, no issues with 1080

A pair of those should be just the ticket

That seems well OTT to me.

I believe decent quality 1080p is ~50mbps, therefore 200mbps should be able to handle it with ease.

I was initially thinking of going for 200Mbps models, but if the Gigabit variants are available for not much more then....

If you've got a reliable source that's able to give accurate streaming throughputs for 1080p that would be handy.

Thanks,

Steve

On a good quality 1080 mkv converted for the ps3 they seem to run at around 15-20 MB per second, this is according to the ps3 counter. obviously higher bit rate would mean higher than that. What youyr saying is 5MB per second which I think is way too low.

I think I'll give those a go Steve, just spoke to me Ma who said she would cough up the dough for my bday lol

My router is only 10/100 so I'm gonna run off my second lan port on the mobo which is gigabit, I think I'll have to tel PS3 media server which port to stream to but should be easy enough.

Ordered ..........

Cheers for the link Steve.

I guess I'm sorted for bandwidth for years lol

A Bluray film is 54Mbps (linky), add in some overhead for network traffic, and 200Mbps should still be plenty.

Too many bytes and bits for me lol

Those blu ray specs are for reading and writing, besides I ain't talking blu ray, I after figures for streaming anything but a blu ray, I just play them on the PS3 no cabling needed of course.

I need throughput for a HQ MKV of about 15gb, which bounces between 5megabytes and sometimes up to 30 megabytes, so I assume 200mbps = 20Mbps ain't gonna cover the peaks of 30+ Mbps

Blimey - you don't hang about! Let me know how you get on with them.

So you're looking to connect the PS3 directly to your PS3? If you're using 'PS3 Media Server' just confirm which NIC card you're using, on a mobo with two onboard - and that should be you sorted.

:p

No time like the present lol

Just thinking about the connection, If I use the second gb lan port on my mobo, will it still pick up the tinternet for the PS3 ??

It's been a long time since I used ICS in windows lol

Don't necessarily believe that you'll get the throughput that it says on the box -I have a couple of 200Mb units that I got from Ebuyer and they give about 72 Mb/s on my 19 year old ring main.

Phil

I run the 200mbps jobbie at home, going to a 6 gang socket and then out to a small GB switch, goes to the media streamer, the egg box, V+ box and blu-ray player, no probs at all with 1080p being streamed.

I'm using Zyxel kit at the moment

Update .......

Been running the gigabit plugs for a while now, they manage just about everything bar 1080p but I think that is down to the pc not able to transcode fast enough, if I mkv2vob them first they are fine, they don't seem to run at gb speeds mind but they can handle a lot more then the 200's, apparntly theres a firmware update in the pipeline

I am down next week, so you can Demonstrate in the comfort of your lounge mate :)
