No, I meant I have something for Carl to.. ....

Hows your arse mate, after the mouse finished with it

Sore as ....

The final sum still hasn't come through, so when you hear the scream you'll know !!!

Update .......

Been running the gigabit plugs for a while now, they manage just about everything bar 1080p but I think that is down to the pc not able to transcode fast enough, if I mkv2vob them first they are fine, they don't seem to run at gb speeds mind but they can handle a lot more then the 200's, apparntly theres a firmware update in the pipeline

Strange mental images aside....

You any idea what the gig ones actually run at, in real life?

You've never mkv2vob'd anything lol the ladies love it. It's all the rage :p

Tricky question as the supplied software doesn't work lol

I've been meaning to contact Solwise but hav'nt got round to it yet

You keep telling yourself that ;)

How about on the received stream into the PS3, when you bring up full info as it's playing - there should be a data rate top-right hand side of the screen?

720p @ around 8-10 MBps

1080p @ anything up to 60 MBps

PS3 media server reports the speed @ 21MBps but I assume this a quick ping when it first fires up rather than a sustained throughput test.

Another variable would be my wiring, my house is 60 yr old, if I use the point in what was my garage is reverts to sub 20 MBps, chuck it 'in the house' and it lights up blue meaning media extreme mode is running 1080 a no-no in the garage but ok when in the hall just means a foot long run out of the door lol

Cheers. You should be able to get a sustained transfer rate from PS3 Media Server - can't remember which tab it's in off-hand though.

Wiring is the biggest unknown for me as well. Only one way to find out I suppose. For me, it would allow location of the server to a location that I really can't be bothered running neat CAT6 to! :)

I don't bother with the egg box for streaming anymore, I use a little Sumvision streamer now as reccomended by BioMulv IIRC, brilliant bit of kit, streams everything at 1080p, MKV's the lot, best £50 I have ever spent at Novatech

Been looking these myself for obvious PS3 reasons ;)

One of the Cyclone range Tony, or the Micro?

Mines a Cyclone Live Steve

Streamed a 23gb 1080p Rip of Harry Plopper over the weekend for the kids with no drop in frame rate, I am really impressed with it :)

Wired or wireless Fluff?

Wired mate

They cause some serious noise issues for your neighbours though and there have been reports of complaints regarding people using them.

They're far enough away - it's fine! :D

Actually, is it known how far this 'noise' has occasion to travel?

Not sure the BBC had some complaint about it recently too, but it was knocking out FM and DAB so I'd guess it wasn't a small amount.

I know the amateur radio lot were not happy either.

I've take the cat 5 approach, as while the initial cabling is more expensive (if you hide it in the walls), it's a lot cheaper than buying expensive plugs, that use a huge amount of power over a year.

Oky doke - yep, remember reading something on The Register about radio and the HAM lot :)

True, power consumption isn't something I'd considered. As said, where I was looking to get connectivity to is a bit of an arse to cable, and I might move within the short-term anyway.

Hmmmm.....

TBH you can't beat copper. I'm always tempted to fit the house out and put a patch panel and switch cabinet under the stairs but I'm too lazy.

That's my ultimate aim as well. But would need to move into somewhere that I was completely doing up I think, so it could be done from scratch and done properly.

They have some interesting skirting board options if you have wires elsewhere or a switch on the same floor.

Yeah, have spotted those before. Did consider them for comms on the last office fit-out I was involved in.
