Welcome to Briskoda Dan!

Hi dan, I had one replaced on my golf pd150. It's a fairly easy job and quite a common fault. As the bearings get older they start to seize inside the pulley. I believe you have to change the timing belt as well as it joins the alternator pulley to the water pump and you don't really want that going! Wouldn't advice a long trip with this problem! Hope this helps.
