CD Changer

Featured Replies

Excellent, well the plastic joint was half way popped, still attached but I presume enough to allow water to escape, with the help of my 6yr old assistant who could nearly fit inside the panel gap himself we managed to re-fit the joint with a pair of needle nosed pliers and some brute force, no glue :)

Testing rear washer jet proved dry and good, also closed the estate door and poured a can of water  all over the rear to see if the leak was from elsewhere, all dry so far...

Now to contact devonutopia about that replacement cd changer as the existing one still won't play ball, getting there, cheers for the help.  The car's 11 yrs old now and needs it's music back.

I believe the changers are not interchangeable. I've already tried that and it didn't work. Make sure you eject your CD cassette before all stops working completely. I'm currently hunting for a new head unit. Gave up trying to fix the changer connections.

Make sure you fix the washer connection or there could be a problem with the other bits of the loom. Don't glue or fix the joint as it's an accessible joint, if it can't pop, an other one will go when under pressure instead.

I presume the pin connections in the plugs are identical, I did call my local steadlership who said there was no reason why they should be paired up with specific Head Units and should be just a plug and go unit, I posted this question last week in the ICE section but had no answers, hmmmm, do I splash out on a used changer which may not work anyway? to be honest, I can't afford to change the HU at the moment as other commitments on the car come first so this was hopefully a quick and cheapish fix to keep me going, i'll see how much the changer is going to cost before,  as I say I do have power to my existing changer, it loads and checks all cd's but playback is stutterred and the sound isn't very nice as there is no music just more like a scratched record throughout the whole disc, mechanically ok but something obviously very wrong with the lazer or similar, I presume and hoping that it's the changer which is damaged (probably through water) rather than the plugs/loom, fingers crossed.

I can't be sure, you often get conflicting information on here, but I did try a second unit and it didn't work. I couldn't establish if the fault was the unit or the loom.

Obviously first thing is to clean all the plug connections of any corrosion. Could just be a poor connection.

Is the plug easily opened to clean the pins and connections in both male and female sections?

Joining in this thread....have yet to try and remove the CD player, but first how do you get the cassette out ....tried pushing the eject button, but nothing happens.....? When I select CD on the cars radio , I get the message  " MECHANIC " . Now that really is a subtle hint!  :-)

Ignore previous post as now all sorted.....Took the CD player out complete with cartridge and then undid the connector. There were traces of some sort of gunge in the female side of the connector. No specialised cleaner available on a Sunday afternoon here in the Wilderness, so with a small quantity of petrol and an old toothbrush gave the connector a light cleaning. Re-connected and ....nothing. Then got a safety pin and gently pushed the pin end into all the joints...re-connected and there was a buzz and click and when the eject button was pushed, out came the cartridge . Loaded up a CD and hey presto, everything worked perfectly. Easy fix for me for a change. Time for a  :cocktail:

For reference, most "Mechanic" faults are a failure to load a disc, and can be cleared by ejecting and re-inserting the magazine (which can only be done whilst dstopped obviously). They're more likely with CD-R than with bought discs.

Thanks for that good "gen", the sort of info not found in the Handbook !
