Milltek Exhaust sound

Featured Replies

Now that a few more members have fitted the Milltek Exhaust could we please have an audio clip of how it sounds through the rev range from in the car/out the car. I like the idea of it however like a few members I have spoken to I am concerned about the noise with it being a diesel. I have read all the write-ups already.

Thanks.

i could do with hearing it too ;)

is it a phwoooooorp? or a chug chug?

I dont think anyone's going to respond...

Shame really as whenever somebody wants a review/picture etc, I always do my best to help :(

I wish I could do an audio clip, but have nothing to do it with. The noise is a nice growly, almost petrol note. Nice and deep and very un-diesel like. If I get a digi-camcorder soon, then I will take a clip, but not sure if I'll be able to afford one any time soon. ;)

Cheekymonkey has just got a milltek fitted to his Furby. Dont know whether he has the capability to record sounds tho...

I hope it's not too deep, I dont want to sound like a Chavish Nova driver who's car only rev's to 4.5k rpm :o

I've seen the reviews as well, looks like it will be a slightly deeper note, but not boy-racer-ish waking up the neighbourhood...hopefully. After all they (milltek) use the slogan, "Performance that blows your mind, not your ears".

Anyway, I'm booked to get mines fitted on 19th Feb, so if nobody replies by then, I'll do a review on the noise, might even attach a sound file. Now theres an idea - I'll see about doing a before / after type thing.

Hold yer horses sunny boy!!!!!!!! I've only just seen the mail!

However, I don't have anything to record the sound with - I'll try and track down a mic to plug into my minidisc player.

Until then, I can only offer a written explanation. As I have said in other mails, the sound with the Milltek and green filter is pretty good. There is certainly a deeper note coming from the exhaust, but it's quite rounded and mellow. If you put your head by your exhaust now, imagine it a bit deeper in tone and a little louder - but not much. The sound is not a chug chug, much smoother than that. A nice constant hum really.

I haven't heard it from the outside whilst driving as I've always been doing the driving myself. However, it really does sound soooo much better from the inside. The deeper note can be heard, but it is not intrusive. You know when you are in a higher gear on a car with the standard exhaust, it sounds quite thrashy at 2.5 to 3k rpm? Well, with the milltek, those revs sound great. The engine clatter is covered by the exhaust and air intake sounds, but as I have said - it is not intrusive. You can't hear the turbo whistle from inside unless you have the windows down - but if you're like me, you'll want to hear it spooling up. I can't wait for some windows down summer driving. :D

If I can get a microphone, I'll put some clips up... but it's not going to be straight away. However, I have given my completely honest opinions and observations above. The system may be pricey at over

It is NOT a boy racer sound.... more like a BMW straight 6 (eg. 2.5 or 3.0l) at lower revs. A lower note can be heard, but its no louder than a CTR's exhaust.

Deffo not boy racer. Not at all loud or offensive. Just deeper and more sporty. ;)

It honestly sounds pretty sporty - you want to rev it - and it's a diesel!!!

Trust us... it works!

I'll agree with that! My fuel consumption has dropped quite a bit due to me playing more often now.

I know!!!

I used to get about 56-58 on a long drive, but now I can't seem to stay on 50!!!

More evidence that it is a good drive!

Im sure we can all say at one point when we were flooring it we had it in single figures but im talking about overall over a period of nearly 1 hour of driving... :D

Yep, so was I...

The 25 MPG was after two hours of B-roads...

The 6 MPG was after sitting in a traffic jam for 1.5 hours in the summer with the air conditioning on...

:D

I had a days worth of driving and got an average of 15.something or other. Was a day of driving around Bruntingthorpe chasing Octavia's though.
