Ripped off some undercar protection

Featured Replies

I've had my car for over three years (& stayed in the same place!) & on a few occasions the metal section for the drop bolt for our driveway gate would catch on something on the underside of the car...I'd assumed that it was one of the mudflaps.

However on Friday, there was an almighty bang & a crack, followed by the sight of some trim lying on the drive, as I reversed up it...followed by the kids asking 'what was that?'

I couldn't see on Friday, where it had come from, but today on washing the car, I managed to confirm that it's from about halfway back on the drivers side, the same protection exists on the other side too. It's got a wee lip, presumbaly to deflect any debris? away from whatever it's there to protect.

Does anyone know what I am talking about (not sure it's that clear !!) & if so, what is it protecting. I am hoping it doesn't need to be fixed.

The section that's ripped off is about 12" wide x 6" long

A picture may help in identifying it.

I think I know what you mean, and if it's what I'm thinking of they are there to protect the brake line or fuel lines that dangle on a small bracket closer to the rear wheel.

i've always wondered wat that is for?!?! somehow i don't think it enables the octavia to stick to the tunnel wall upside down like a f1 car!! hehehhehe

Mine always seem to catch road humps if I have anyone in the back.

Fuel cooler i think is in there

I saw the lines when I was taking the pics...I think you could be right.

Will try to post them shortly.

I know it sounds a bit rough but I would use the best glue I coud get probably araldite rapid and stick it back on ! It's an easy fix for a poss tricky repair otherwise , then take off the gate catch with an angle grinder so you don't run aground again!!0

Maybe right re the glue...but the gate latch needs to stay, in case we need to shut the gate (long story) Existing neighbours fine but previous have been edjits !

Pikey fix: drill some holes through both pieces & re-attach with black cable/zip ties.... ;)
