No not yet :(. Spoke to the dealer last week and think its being built this week and get delivery mid june, so a good few weeks after you! Hopefully youll be able to answer all my teething problems and curious questions when i finally get it! how are you getting on with it?

Ah man that's a pain - I hope it hurries up for you! I wonder what slowed yours down. To be honest mid-June was when I think my dealer was expecting mine so it could be that I picked up a cancelled order or something like that, though I got my build week (16) after about 5 weeks I seem to recall and it didn't move so perhaps not. I only added rear sensors (and I love them!) so maybe that helped...

Hopefully I'll be able to help yeah, though even better you won't have any teething problems. I'm getting on great with it. It's great to drive and I love all the little extra bits and pieces they've come up with - it's just so well designed for a car in this price range. It certainly ticks all the value for money boxes!

Only teething problems are that the itermittent wiper doesn't work (rest of the wiper functions seem fine - don't know if it's just I'm doing something wrong but it just wont move in that setting), and I'm yet to experience auto stop-start kicking in despite meeting all the conditions on numerous occasions. I don't know if it's just it needs to be run in a bit more - the demo car i drove had 6000 miles on it of course - but I hope its not a fault!

Still, the way I see it, if there are a couple of things that need to be put right, it'll be a bit like having a couple of extra Christmas presents left over that you open a couple of weeks later! :giggle:

Also, I'm very glad I got it in red, even if it's not to everyone's taste, though I think the stickers over the indicator lights will have to come off as they look daft against red. I'll get some proper pictures up once this combination of wind/rain/bits of tree stops attacking the poor thing! I managed to take a quick one yesterday but it didn't come out very well... here it is anyway:

Nope, its definitely switched on. Any other GL2 drivers find it took a while before auto stop start worked?

Gonna have to get in touch with the garage anyway as the intermittent wipers don't seem to be working...

My stop start took a while to kick in on my 75m return from dealer, could well be the battery is not got enough charge to run the car and do stop start- one of the fuel saving methods is the car uses the battery to run electrics, then recharge when needed.

Wipers seems funny and looks like a fault, ha be you tried moving the time interval switch on top of the right stick?1

Cheers Dempsek that fills me with hope that it won't be a fault - I did wonder if it could be a battery thing. The system is definitely on - when I switch it off with the button, and put it in neutral the "STOP START NOT AVAILABLE" message doesn't appear at all - but for some reason it hasn't kicked in. Perhaps it will given time.

As for the wipers, yeah I've played with the toggle. Basically the wiper blade doesn't move a bit in the first setting, not matter which of the intermittent settings it's on. I only discovered it today when a light shower started as I was about to pull off. Probably looked a bit of a knob sat in the car playing with the wipers for ages, especially as the rain had stopped by the time I'd given up and put the manual away!

stop start may not work if you are using aircon or rear demister or even maybe door mirror heaters.... turn all that off and try it.

Yeah I had the air con on the first drive so I've not been using it much since as I thought along the same lines as you. I don't think there is anything else electric running unecessarily. I even had the stereo off for much of the time so I could hear the engine.

I might just persevere with it for a while but since when I contact the dealer about the wiper problem I'll probably mention it hasn't kicked in yet just in case it is in some way faulty.

I know in the fiat system you need the aircon and demisters off.. as your car is new, it may just be that the battery isn't fully charged yet.. give it some times and a few long runs

Cheers Sharkrider - I hope it just needs a bit more bedding in time. I'm not going to worry about it too much yet anyway. If the battery needs a bit of time to get fully charged then that's probably it. To be fair it's barely learned to crawl - I will wait until it's fully up and running before I worry about it!

I always have the climate control on and it's never stopped the stop-start from activating yet. Mine even cuts the engine out after 1 mile when the blue light is still on to show a cold engine...

It's got a fair size battery, so as said maybe you just need to get it charged up a bit.

Looks like you got yours from the same place too.. Preston Motors in the East End of London.

That's impressive because it does say it may not work if the engine isn't up to temp etc...

Did yours work from the first drive, do you remember?

Yep picked it up from across the river (I do venture over ocassionally ;) ). Great service from them so I don't think I'll have any difficulty sorting out any after-sales problems.

Hi. Doesn't work for about the first few minutes. As said previously it will not work if the electrics are loaded. Otherwise it works from day one.

Never noticed it until I'd done 5000 miles, but I pull out of work (car sat for 8 hours) and plod down the road... first set of lights is 0.4 miles and the stop-start activates. :o

So despite what people say mine works very early on in a journey.

My first drive was 40 miles, so that probably got everything charged up nicely. Pretty sure it didn't cut in as early from day one though.

It also cuts out at night, even with all the lights on and the climate control going.

It takes a lot of loading to stop it activating the stop-start as it's got a beefy battery for a tiddly little engine I believe.

Cheers for all your thoughts guys. I'll see how it gets on over the next couple of weeks when hopefully I'll get some longer runs on it, and if I don't get any joy I'll ask the dealer to take a look.

As I say I've got a problem with the intermittent wiper setting not working too so I'm gonna have to get in touch with them anyway..

As CT17 has said my stop start kicks in almost straight away and the only things that stop it working are regen and low battery charge.

In winter with the car blowing warm the air soon goes cold when the car and engine have stopes.

As you appear to have wiper issues I would mention stop start to.

I'll be getting in touch with the dealer shortly, though I may wait until tomorrow. If I have a chance tonight I might take it out on a bit of a longer run to see if it gives the battery a bit of a kick, and see if that sorts the issue out. Want to get it sorted but I don't see any point in rushing back to the dealer in case I discover something else.

Don't get me wrong though - I love the car!

Just a quick update.

Having made a few more journeys now, varying it a bit and including giving the car some high speed runs I'm pretty sure there is a fault with the Auto Stop/Start. I've checked several times and I'm pretty sure that the criteria are being met, so I'm going to get the dealer to take a look.

Apart from that though, what a car! I can't believe that its a 1.2 litre 3 cylinder engine. OK, I'm not going to win any races (except possibly long distance!) but I'm amazed at how comfortable it is at pretty much any speed I want!

I also love the sound system - I'm not a geek when it comes to in-car audio but I like my music, and the quality of sound (especially through MDI) is astonishing in such a reasonably priced car. As I said to my friend - it's the stereo from a VW Polo, and the Speakers from an Odeon!

I also like all the extra little touches. Things like the way the car re-locks if you don't open the door within x seconds of unlocking. The reaction I got giving an elderly friend a lift when I told him it was a Skoda! He couldn't believe it!

Hopefully the couple of bugs will be easy to fix, because everything else about the car is fantastic! :D

Glad to hear your enjoying im still on countdown but seeing this is filling me with excitment and i really cant wait (also glad you said its not too bad on the speed front that was my worry with the heavier hatchback over the estate). What sort of Mpg are you getting ( i know its early days but just interested). Hopefully the auto start stop should sort itself out soon for you. did you get the wipers fixed?

Well I'm taking the car in next Friday to get both problems sorted out. I'm hoping there'll be simple solutions to both!

I only really started looking at mpg last night when I took it out for a long run to see if it sorted the auto stop start. Got 60mpg, without trying, with a new engine, and not driving at constant speeds either (as per manual) which won't help. Well impressed with that!

And in terms of speed, its getting there that's my problem but I'm getting used to it now. Slowly working out what gear it likes for what, and where the turbo kicks in. My last car was a 1.6 petrol so I'm having to retrain my right foot!

This is my first VW Skoda and my third CR Diesel and the gearing is different. On the whole I find 1st is first/a bit of second (I have to change down earlier than I did before), 2nd is 2nd/3rd going up to 20mph, third is my main gear for work and is more like 3rd/4th and goes up to about 35mph, 4th for 35 to 65 and then 5th.

On the flat you can use 4th at 30/32 about 1200 rpm, but then you have to think about changing gear where as third you just trundle. As an example on Wednesday I drove from my home to a church along 30 mph roads and did not use 4th at all picked up two other adults and returned. The journey there mainly downhill returned 72 mpg and the return was 62 on the readout an average of 66 mpg.

Just to see what would happen I drove from Stoke on Trent to Leicester max speed 57 and 4th 76 mpg with all the family in the car, I did the same journey with my first engine at 50 in 5th and got a readout of 75 mpg, return journey was a bit quicker.

I found a simple way to improve my MPG, turn off the mpg display and use any of the other readouts not the two MPG ones.

Just got back from the dealer's. They've taken a look at it and concluded:

- Yes there's a fault

- No, they don't know what's causing it.

Apparently they ran some diagnostics on it which confirmed there is some sort of fault, and they think that the Stop/Start problem and the Intermittent wiper problem are related, but they couldn't say what it was that was causing it so they've had to send the results to the factory for advice. :(

Trying to stay positive though: at least they confirmed it is a fault and are going to deal with it. Would have been much worse if they'd decided the Stop/Start would probably work in the end if I just persevere! When i first got there one of the fellas started trying to tell me that stop/start won't work with the air-con on etc and I corrected him on that one thanks to the advice from you guys on here.

So, I will have to go back again next week (hopefully), which is a bit of a pain because they're not that near to me, and the drive over is pretty terrible, but hopefully the boffins at the factory will come up with a solution and it will be easy to sort out! Given that they've had to consult the factory I'm assuming it is some sort of problem with the computerfications but they didn't say very much... will just have to wait and see...

Just thought I'd post an update on here in case others have similar problems.

Real bummer sounds familiar to me on safety grounds they kept my car. To be honest and sort of agree with the dealer, there is lots of new technology on the GL2 that's not on any of the other cars in the Fabia range and my car was the first GL2 they had ever seen let alone have a fault with the engine - they even asked for the handbook.

I hope they get to fix the problem really quickly.

Yes I completely get where the dealer is coming from, and I'd much rather have them get it sorted properly even if it takes time. I don't think they had seen many GL2s, and I honestly don't think the guy was trying to fob me off about the Stop/Start at first, it was just lack of knowledge. At least they've confirmed there's an actual fault - now I've just got to wait for the solution!

I don't think they were concerned that it was anything too serious though - I mean they certainly didn't talk about keeping the car! Sounds like your engine issues were a lot more serious! I was suprised that they thought the same issue is preventing the intermittent wipers from working - it hadn't occured to me that the two things could be linked. Fingers crossed the guys at the factory will come up with a decent solution and it will be easy to fix!

Hi all, been away for a couple of weeks but I took the car back to the dealers again yesterday so I thought I'd post a quick update.

All now resolved. It turned out that both the intermittent wiper issue, and the Stop/Start system not working were caused by a sensor in the bonnet lid which had come loose after the clip that holds it in place had bent (presumably somewhere between the factory and pickup).

Essentially, the computer thought that the bonnet was open and so was preventing both the Stop/Start and the intermittent wiper from operating. Difficult to diagnose, but once they'd figured it out it was simple to fix and I'm happy to report that Stop/Start is now working very well, and the intermittent wipers too (which was handy on the drive home). :)

Something to bear in mind if anybody else has the same issue! I think in the end they diagnosed it by Skoda working out which sensors would prevent both systems working and it was a process of elimination. Bit odd that the intermittent wipers stop functioning, but perhaps it's part of the control mechanism to help you identify the problem.

Good news.

Nice when it's something simple.
