It is quite hard to notice a big shiny red car with bright LED's on the front i suppose...

Know what you mean. I previously had and electric orange Focus ST and you wouldn't belive the number of people who pulled out in front of it !

Same problem as with red (the colour frequency is too low to be visible when its moving in front of other things):

Wow i really do have an invisible car! :dull:

Aye. But perversely even though yellow is just next to orange it is the most visible colour (when moving over other background colours anyway).

On a Å koda they don't dim no, but they do on an Audi. That was my point.

it does dim on the "Å koda" Octavia vRS models - facelift models to b exact!!!

why r we going around in circles here??!?!

Last week my wife was stopped by the police and was accused of driving with her fog lights on. Even when she switched the "real" fog lights on the officer did not seem to believe she was driving with Daylight Running Lights but let her carry on with a warning about driving with the fog lights on.

Whereabouts in the UK did this happen? I have been running with DRL activated in my Octavia Elegance since last September and not had any grief from Plod.

Apologies! I stand corrected. In my head I was thinking basic Octavia (with the DRLs in the foglight housing). THEY don't dim.

Im finding with DRL's especially the halfords style strip of small bright lights that whilst you see the car judging how far away it is or how fast its travelling can be hard

Interesting things on the net if you have a look around !!

Bulgaria, since DRL's were introduced deaths up 8.1%

Poland, ditto, deaths up 6%

Now the interesting one, since Austria banned them in 2008 accidents have gone down, fatalities down 5%, biker accidents down 25%, (When DRL were introduced into Austria during 2006/07 accidents increased by 12.2%)

This is obviously biased but throws up some interesting arguments http://www.dadrl.org.uk/health.html

Can we really trust the Eurocrats, after all the DRL comnes hard on the heels of the DPF, perhaps anything begining with D is the problem

This article indicates that multiple vehicle accidents reduce because of DRL's.

Nor are we to forget that sweden have had them since 1977.

This seems pretty stupid to me - haven't the plods seen their own vehicles fitted with DRLs???

New Police vehicles have them fitted as standard as they come off the production line.

Have seen several in the SE Hampshire area in recent days (OK - so maybe sometimes it might have been the the same as one seen previously!!??) - but the point that no one seems to have grasped yet is that any new police vehicle will have them as standard too!!.

Not any new police car.

DRL's are only mandatory for new models introduced (not manufactured) since February 2011.

There is no requirement for car manufactuers to retrofit DRLs into the design of existing cars - although many have done so anyway (including Skoda).

So you could still get pulled over by a brand new police car without DRL's which means we'll still have to try and educate the occasional officer of the law :giggle:

This was in Sheffield

Sorry to drag this one up again, but if I chose to turn off my DRL's via maxidot, would I be encouraging a ticket ?
