Lowering the Scout

Featured Replies

Now I've made a decision to keep the Scout, I want to drop it down to 'fill' the arches & of course improve on looks (I'll probably look at a remap later too).

Can anyone recommend any kits & perhaps give me an idea on what prices I will be looking at?

I'm thinking a 50mm drop should do it.

Thanks,

W.

:giggle: kind of defeats the object of the Scout...

There are some photo's on here of someone who has fitted spacers to their Scout bringing the wheels out to meet the plastic molded wheel arches, looked quite smart.

Oi! I said no laughing....

I know, but to be honest the ride height isn't much of an advantage to me anymore. Not really after the spacers, just to lower it slightly.

Maybe its a mid-life crisis...

Why don't you just sell it and buy an estate? Seems a bit pointless to lower a car whose main selling point is increased ride height.

4wd is far too much of an advantage.

There is 4x4 normal estate. I have a Scout and wouldn't want to lower it, but would like a little less body roll, though it's not to bad as it is.

I gotta say, dropping a Scout and fitting a set of 19's would look tasty, go for it mate, be different.

The other option is to fit air ride suspension for the best of both worlds............now that would be  funny!

If rough and tumble is off the cards and a bit more oomph with 4wd is what you want you could go the whole hog (or mad?!)...

Drop it to the floor, take off all the mouldings, get VRs front and rear bumpers, 18" Zeniths. Remap it and other solid tweaks to get a 4wd VRs beater.

But then when you even surmise over the cost of doing all that, why not just get an A4 Avant TDI 170 quattro of a similar age and mileage to the Scout, they are suprisingly close on price if Autotrader is to be believed...

..though you do lose the safety net of knowing how the car has been looked after from day one.

Don't know if it's any good to you, but I have my original VRS suspension in the shed, removed from my Octy Mk2 FL Hatch - replaced after the car had done approx. 5K miles with Weitec coilovers.

Might not fit or be what your looking for, but if you are interested drop me a PM.

Well my A4 Avant TDI 170 PD quattro S-Line Special Edition is a good alternative, but I think it says it all that I drive the Scout and let my wife blat about in the A4. I'm waiting to swap it for a Superb Scout when they announce it, but it may just go before then. 07/07,all black + privacy etc. and 45k miles...Sorry, couldn't resist that opportunity...
