Rolling road & a 1/4 mile run.

Featured Replies

Saturday I went with a few guys for a run on a rolling road.

I changed the oil & filter in my Fabia vRS on Friday night to get the best possible results.

I knew that my Fabia had been remapped, the previous owner had it on a dyno a couple of years ago & it read 178bhp IIRC.

It ran 162.8bhp 281lbs/ft.

Myself and a few others seem to think that the dyno may be out by 10bhp or so.

As all the cars were shown to be running low including a Focus ST170, the owner had spend nearly £5k on it including a full engine rebuild with uprated parts, it ran less than 170bhp :S

Here are the printouts:

And yesterday I went with some friends to the Fast Show at Santa Pod.

Was nice meeting some of you guys from Briskoda, I forgot what your usernames are :giggle:

I decided to have a go at the 1/4 mile.

1st run.

Launch in 2nd gear, traction control off way too much throttle & the wheels just spun.

17.8 85mph

2nd run.

I let a couple of PSI out the front tyres and again started in 2nd with TC off. Less throttle this time, well... not enough and I stalled it

About 20 seconds

3rd run.

Started in 1st gear, TC on.

Got a 16.2 :)

4th

Start in 1st, TC off.

16.8 81mph

Any idea who's map that is?

It looks very surgy, should be a nice smooth curve.

Mine is below - the red line (along with a very dirty air filter)

I belive it was by a company called Ecotec up near Wigan.

I may get it remapped again at some point, where's there a reputable mapper in the south?

Also, when I changed the oil, with the undertray off I noticed a fair amount of oily muck in the lower intercooler hose join.

It hadn't popped off, just not a very good seal, could this cause a small boost leak? Would fitting new clips sort it out?

Could be worth cleaning up your boost pipes + IC if you've got dribbles of oil out of that lower boost pipe. Fairly straight forward to do. When I had my SMIC off it was caked inside, as was the EGR. Cleaning the SMIC and majority of pipes is easy as pie once you've got the front bumper off. Front bumper was fairly straight forward from what I remember...!

to the OP

looks like you have some hesitation issues there!

possibly injector loom?

does it feel lumpy on pickup?

maybe a slight boost leak

I think it may well be a small boost leak.

Would fitting new clips to the hoses fix it?

your 1/4 times and terminals are also crap mate. Something is up.

What tyres are you running?

Also depends on whether this was your first time on the drag strip. If so a 16.2 isn't that bad. It takes a fair few runs to get the timing right on the launch.

+1

I managed a 16.8 (17.4 with clutch slip) at Shakespeare County and I have 40bhp and 65lb/ft less than your vRS

Exactly, what where your terminal speeds mate?

The times arent really anything to do with the car, as above could just be beause you cant launch for toffee. But the OPs terminal speeds seem, very low. When I had 165hp (Custom Code Stg1) I ran terminal speeds of 93mph. Not 81mph! Of course allow for a small change due to possible weight differences, but still that should be 1 or 2 mph.

IIRC terminal speed was about 78mph.

You was there when I ran the 16.8 with TDISport
