That is what i thought, and , like you I have windoze on my MacBook Pro via VMWare. It works extremely well I find, though I haven't found the need to put it onto the iMac yet. I use that for photography because the display is out of this world!

Thanks for getting back to me. (I really like the thought of a permanent record of a journey stored on the camera's SD card, so that you can look at it if you want, or just leave it to function as it is until needed!).

You can obviously back up the video from the card to the mac without using the inferior operating systememoticon-0140-rofl.gif and you can view the individual mp4's as well in QuickTime.

I'm beginning to realise that there are quite a few of us on here who use macs.....emoticon-0136-giggle.gif

My iMac is too slow to use windows on it, but my MBP is fine. I trying to justify a 27" iMac, to replace my 5 year old iMac, but can't just yet....

Mike

"Terrorism - More bark than bite"....Would you care to tell that to the friends, relatives, loved ones of any one of the 3000 who died on 11th September 2001, or the 56 dead and 700 injured on 7th July 2005. The list is quite extensive. Clearly none of your relatives threw themselves out of a window, 100 floors up rather than burn to death when terrorists flew planes into those towers.

To avoid severe thread drift I won't pursue the point but I just wanted to remind you you that terrorism is with us and here to stay whether you like it or not. You stick with your firmly held privacy principles and just hope it doesn't happen to you.

Do the maths- and park the emotion please. In the 10 years since 9/11 we have had approx 30,000 people killed in road traffic accidents in UKand fewer than 100 deaths caused by terrorism .I dont know what the US figures are but will obviously be far higher than ours.Terrorism works by frightening most people but killing - in relative terms - low numbers.

I know what you mean - especially about "justifying" the expense!

However, just like having a Yeti, where driving it gives you that - for want of a better way to describe it - thrill and buzz, I have found the same with the 27" imac, whatever I'm doing on it. And with the wireless keyboard and great touchpad it is as easy to work on/with as it can possibly be.

I've never felt any pangs of regret since getting it, even though it meant doing without a holiday!!

As you say - there are quite a few Mac aficionados out there in Skoda land. And I wonder how many B&O users there are, too!

I said I don't propose to prolong an off topic theme....but your crass insensitivity appalls and disgusts me. I'd appreciate it if you didn't tell me to....in your cheap, throwaway phraseology......'park the emotion'.

We won't agree - and this is a thread primarily about in car cameras and this is a Skoda forum and I'm well off topic so this is the wrong place to prolong this. You've made your point and I, mine. Maybe if my job hadn't involved scraping up and bagging the remains of victims of incidents, either accidental - or caused by terrorists, I might see your thoughts in a different light...and vice versa.

C'mon fellas - we can see where this will go if it doesn't stop NOW.

Just agree to differ, otherwise the level of personal insult will escalate and nobody wishes for that to happen. Nobody "wins" and nobody benefits.

Thank goodness we're all different, BUT, we ought to try and keep the differences controlled and polite. This forum has a reputation for friendship and support and kindness - let's try to keep it that way.

My suggestion is that there be no more posts, other than about Rockhopper's project and how he manages it.

OK?

Yes and Yes, but please don't let George Dubya and Tony Blair destroy all the trust in the world for ever with their" perceived terrorist threats ".It's another step towards" 1984 "where "Big Brother" controlled the ,present ,the past and therefore the future.....

|All I am doing is to make a rational point based upon accurate numbers- emotion doesnt come into maths.I will leave it at that .

As i have posted already, i have had a RoadHawk (Like a BlackVue) Fitted into the front of my Superb for a while now. - It has not captured anything "really" interesting yet...

Since seeing this post, and someone "dunshing" my in-laws parked car in the rear (and doing a runner, leaving him with a re-spray to pay for!) I have found (on eBay) a BlackVue for £132 + £3 post (new, unused) and have installed it into my vehicle as a 2nd camera. - Now, one at the front (BlackVue) and one at the Rear (RoadHawk)

Personally, i find it not only peace of mind whilst driving, but also when parked.

Mike, with regard to a 27" iMac, just make sure you take someone in Education with you when you buy it - and you'll receive a substantial discount (15% off my new MacBookPro last month, and 3 years apple care for £47.00, as apposed to £199 on a MacBook! (my Wife's a teacher...)

Have you managed to get cheaper insurance because you have it installed?

I asked Skoda underwriters and they saiid no, but I know some insurers will.

With some of these camera's 3G detection of someone bumping your car and having theability to record how do you get this to work if the 12v socket goes dead when the ignition is off, even if you do manage to get it wired in live wont it then just flatten your battery? Thinking about this for the street I park in to detect who's bumped my car but dont want a flat battery every morning.

I have wired the front one into the permanent live in the fuse box as per The Great Yeti instructions in the technical section, and at the moment the rear is just plugged into the 12v socket at the back. They take very little current so I'm not worried about flat batteries etc....As I park mine on the drive at home, I unplug at the end of the day, and just plug back in at the beginning of the day, otherwise all the traffic going past will wake up the parking mode sensor and it will record all night longemoticon-0136-giggle.gif

I am now selling these as I'm upgrading to an HD version

See link

Mike

Are you going for the DR400?

If you are there are going to be more HD drive cameras coming to the market in about 3 months or so.

But these will use a full size SD card instead of the micro, which apparently (according to a techy) will give better quality. Roadhawk already have one in delevopment, it's just that Blackvue have released thiers first.

Have to say I like the compactness of the Blackvue though.

Yes, staying with BlackVue DR400. I have all the mounts and power cables installed already, so it makes sense to just change the unit.

I didn't realise that the micro SD card wasn't able to give as good quality as a full size SD card. I like the compactness of the BlackVue units. I don't notice them in use, apart from the rear camera which I see whenever I look in the rear view mirror emoticon-0136-giggle.gif

Me neither, but when you go HD it's apparently more difficult to get the file transfer to the micro SD fast enough, so you get a shimmer effect on the picture. But he did say it was only a little and most non-tech/enthusiasts hardly notice.

That's the reason the GoPro and similar use a full size SD card.

As a drive recorder I wonder if it really matters enough though. Probably not.

A class 10 card is recommended, probably for that reason. A 32gb one costs about £80!

Thats a great price for a full size SD card. I need a micro SD card, best branded card I have seen is a Lexar for £43. These units are quite sensitive to the cheaper cards and some people have found they don't work, even though they are supposed to be the same.....
