Oil Pickup pipe - Which sump gasket sealant

Featured Replies

Ordered my Oil pickup pipe and o ring ahead of doing a service.

Skoda wanted £20 for the sump gasket sealant!

1)So whats the recommended product on here. I have the specific blue sealant used on Vauxhall cam covers, will this do?

2)Also is it better to use Skoda for Oil and air filter, sump plug, or local motor factors?

Many thanks

Stef

Dealers are dear.

You need alloy sump sealant so it hardens quick when you install sump and does not end up in the pan with the oil.

You need the black loctite stuff that is in Halfords or other motor factors.

Part Number - 5910 Premium Silicone Black Gasket Maker/Sealant

This guide i did will help you.

Can see the sealant and amount i put on on the pics further down.

For oil and filters use recomended. Motor factors is not bad priced

but can do to other motor factors

Euro car parts , GSF and TPS are all cheaper than dealers and much the same spec providing you get the correct spec for your car which they will know.

You can get oil, oil filter and sump plug for under £30 from skoda, lest then you know you've got decent bits. Dunno about the air filter might be better off getting an aftermarket one like k&n or pipercross etc

The sealant is called RTV

The part number for the correct V.A.G sealant is D176404A2, current rrp is £20.46 incl vat.

TPS only do genuine parts just at trade prices, it would be less than £30 for oil, filter and sump plug

This stuff then? - http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_173106_langId_-1_categoryId_165691

Would one of these do? Or would I need a couple or tubes?

Cheers

Marc

you won't need all that tube for one application.

OK, Cheers
