2.0 TSI Tuning thread

Featured Replies

Just wondering what performance mods all you guys with 2.0 TSI engines have done and where you are hoping to go with them, hopefully we could get a sticky on the go?

just got my TSI VRS this week, how did you guys run yours in? Im currently staying below 4000rpm with no full throttle acceleration until i get to 500 miles, then I shall increase an additional 500rpm per 100 miles...

I suspect you'll have a "tight tsi", and one that might burn a bit of oil too.. But if you've pussy footed it from new it might be too late late.emoticon-0106-crying.gif

Don't bother running it in. Mine was driven hard the moment I took it off the forecourt, no issues and never needs an oil top up. Check out my sig for current modifications. Downpipe and stage 2 next I think.

Didn't really run mine in but had Revo remap on day 2 so it was too tempting :)

I just took it easy for 100 miles, then drove it quite hard, only had to top up once and I'm on 29k now! In terms of mods I don't think I need any more than Stage 1 - it flies! :giggle:

My only other performance mod will be an ITG induction kit.

I just fitted Bilstein PSS10s, and they are awesome. The ride is so much better, not to mention the looks! Just that road humps are a pain, & I also get clunking noise during low speeds, like parking. Hopefully the noise will go away.

I also fitted the Whiteline Anti-Lift Kit, and replaced the front bushings. Next up will be a Turbo Outlet Pipe, and then hopefully save enough for a chip up year end.

I've just had a Stage 1 remap.

230 BHP & 280 Torque as per rolling road, only £225 from SP tuning. Next is panel filter and cruise control retro

fit.

Im currently planning to have a look at the standard airbox, possibly try lobbing in my spare piperX filter from the TDI, I also have my K57 Intake, which will make a nice difference Im certain, I have a Shark STS here staring at me also!

I put a k57 on my cr but took it straight off because of the awful noise it made!

I have never bothered running in new cars as such, i had mine remapped at about 5k now done 27k.

Stage 1 is so good not sure if I will bother with any more power mods may uprate the suspension depending how it handles at Brands on Track day when i get round to booking another Track evening.

Just a note of caution when I came to renew my insurance last week, Rac no longer covering remaps, some of the specialists eg Chris Knott were unable to quote for my remap as it exceeds a 50BHP increase. That basically excludes all stage 1 TSI cars.

Luckily Adrian Flux were able to quote a fair price.

I have had remapped cars for many years and this time was the hardest I have had to search for cover.

By the way I am unfortunately 40 plus!

I wouldn't bother running it in, especially after you have seen the drivers rag em off the boat and up the dockside still cold !

I would get mine remapped but £500 for effectively a 30 min software download is scandalous.

It takes a bit longer than 30 minutes and can often include before and after Dyno runs! You are paying for the develoment time and costs.

Best money you will ever spend if you appreciate driving, the transformation from stock is unbelievable. Money well spent id say.

ive been doing a lot of reading around on various forums today, and I think Ill start running it in more aggresively tomorrow, almost everyone who has done that seems to say they have used no oil etc...

OP sounds as though he's pretty much followed the running in instructions in the manufacturer's handbook. Are we seriously saying that doing that makes your TSI tight (whatever that means) and use more oil?

What's the theory behind ragging it from new reducing your oil consumption?

(I don't think I bothered too much with running mine in by the way)

A lot of anecdotal data without any proof in my view even if there were a theory looking for evidence. Good news is that lots of people say they haven't mollycoddled their engine and still don't use any oil worth speaking of. A possible distortion there though is that anyone who has had bad news is unlikely to have owned up even on a forum to thrashing their engine because it might invite widespread accusations of being a plonker.

Lets be honest oil consumption varies across the same model regardless of treatment/use. And one man's "no oil worth speaking of" may seem excessive to others. I've had to put a litre in after 7K and I'm hoping that will improve...as that seems a lot to me.

hey all, how are you all getting on with your TSI's?

I have now almost 600 miles on and car is running well, so decided I would have a peek in the airbox, I found there is a little plastic divider in the middle just under the filter, which seems restrictive, so I have my first mod, thats been popped out and my PiperX panel filter put in, so far, car seems a little more responsive, no real power gain on the bum dyno, perhaps a little, but may be placebo!
