NEW TRACK CAR

Featured Replies

I would like to bulid myself a track car i have around 4-6k over a period of 24 months and have 2k for the standard car itself.

It must have -

Plenty of power,

Springs and Shocks all round i.e. no french cars with Torsion bars,

Look Smart

And have plenty of aftermarket choice

Im open to any idea's

thanks... :D

P.S i would like to stay in the VAG ish range...

get an early mk1 octy in 1.8t guise, can be had cheap enough, wack on a gt28 and 300bhp

If sticking with VAG. Mk1 octy vrs. Must be able to pick one up for less than 2k.

Octy vrs £1.5-£2k

Kw v3 and replace any worn bushes £2k

Trackday rubber say kumho, r888 £800

Ds3000's or pagid competion pads on the front £300.

Remap and service £600

Any money left spend on trackdays, sprints, hillclimbs etc.

Pity you've said only VAG, as something like an MX5 or a E30 BMW would have been a huge amount of fun.

If you have to go VAG, its going to be Seat or Skoda.

Not sure about the suspension setups on them, but Leon CupraR's?

225bhp as standard, Brembos etc all ready to go.

Track car nothing better than a 106 gti or saxo vts

Even a gti-6

All awesome handling cars despite your slating of torsion bars

Pretty sure 106gti was voted best handling hatchback!

Even a clio 172 will be cheap and handle awesome!!

Thats a fair point to be honest, just past experience with saxo's made me want a diferent brand off car.

I was looking at 306 gti-6 thought.

Any more idea's people and would you like me to start a blog.. "if i can work out how to"

What about an Integra Type R? They're set up very well, weigh just over 1000 kilos and are within budget.

Mk3 Seat Ibiza Cupra R

Teeny tiny body.

Big turbo charged lump.

Modifications a go-go

:wonder: Lack of proper rwd cars there! lol What about a Porche 924/944, they're VAG too for most of the parts lol

Mk.1 or 2 Golf with a 20v Turbo

What he said.

MK2 Golf GTi with a 20v Turbo. Or sticking with Skoda what about buying a Felicia and dropping a VR6 engine into it and then supercharging? You'd have to spend a lot on suspension and braking parts but that would be hilarious.

Whats the reason behind you not wanting anything with a torsion beam. They work really well on tracks as they are so smooth.

buy my Focus and have loads left to increase the power

I used to have a 306 GTi-6.....Handled like a dream and was the best car ive ever had fun wise. Shame your not interested in french cars. You can supercharge them to 260bhp with a grand or 2. You could spend the rest on the suspension. 6 speed box, 2.0, 16V N/A, revvy as they come.

I miss mine :(

being its a vag forum id say a leon or ibiza 1.8t due to there dimensions and engine. If i had to start again with a different marque its certainly where id start looking.

Id defo go for a turbo car, they are more flexible to drive (you dont have to be in the perfect gear every corner) and bags more tuning potential. Plus ultimatly they are faster. A pretty std turbo car will match most tuned nasps come the straight bits.

the 306gti is an awesome car, and imho (never driven one) the best handling fwd out of the box. Although apparently they are expensive to modify.

Thinking left field, and with some biastness! a rover 220 turbo. Set of coilovers, some brakes that last longer than parking up in the paddock and you have a seriously capable track car.

Or an Evo 2 or 3 maybe?

I dont like 4wds but all the Evos handle very well and come with enough power to not make the 4wd and brick like aeros a massive issue on most tracks. Maybe not the cheapest car to keep on track tho

 Some really really good options i have noticed there have been no fords in there other than the focus..

I still have no idea were to go...

Im starting to look into french cars to be honest a 1.6 gti 106 is possible.....! B)

Had good fun following a Saxo vts at a blyton

106/Saxo with some bilstein dampers seem popular.

Could also try mk1 Clio 172 or Clio 172 cup.
