Battery warning light!

Featured Replies

Hi. After I start the car the battery light stays on for a couple of seconds before turning off. Also there was a beeping sound while driving and the battery light was. flashing for about 3seconds then everything went back to normal. I changed the battery about 1year ago. Any help appreciated. Thanks.

Unsure about the beeping/light, however to check the alternator run a multimeter across the battery when car is stopped, should read ~12v then when the car is started run the meter across it again, should read higher (~14v?), if its reading the same its likely the alternator isn't sending power to it correctly (though from last time an alternator went on me in a car there were more electrical problems than beeping on start).

Hope this helps, someone should be along shortly who is more informed about warning lights!

Cheers

Patrick

As with cerealkiller statement, get the output amperage on your alternator checked out, plus the tension on the alternator auxiliary drive belt, (for slipping.)

There is also an issue with a wire that breaks on the Fabia

When you turn the ignition on and you have started the engine , check to see if the battery light comes on , then goes off

I broke down in mine because of it  it is quite common on the Fabia

the wire breaks , it is DMF lead from the alternator to the ECU

Just have a check

As I found on mine, there are two wires. If the insulation wears through on the blue wire, the warning light comes on even though its still charging OK.

Bit' out of this topic (sorry) but maybe it will be useful for somebody, driving car without A/C: how to slacken alternator.

Have faced this problem when there's no place to grip and huge water pump pliers isn't available- but with help of cheap loop from DIY shop and 2 nuts it can be done easily:

I'm an advocate of checking alternator volts out under full load- run car up to about 200rpm, check volts on battery ,then turn on light/heater/ rear screen ad every bit of power thats possible to be consumed.

Where are you measuring? Do you have long extension leads for your multimeter or are you accessing direct power from near the fusebox?

Broken alternator sensing wire on the plug in front of gearbox.
