Hill Hold on VRS

Featured Replies

Hi

Anyone know if the FL VRS has hill hold as standard And if it does, what exactly does it do?

Thanks

Pretty certain only the Scout gets it.

Basically, if the car senses a hill, it delays releasing the footbrake for a few seconds or forward movement of the car in gear. I found it pretty useful for hill starts on snow in winter because it prevents any roll back.

we've got it as standard on the vrs model.

well atleast the oz spec'ed ones do.

what exactly does it do

as mentioned already, it gives u approx 2 secs before the car will roll back & detonate into a million pieces!!!

bhahahaha.

I think a proper hill-hold function keeps the brakes on for you even as you slip your foot over to the accelerator. Some have time limits of a few seconds, some don't.

My manual FL vRS doesn't have it. Not sure if it's available on the DSG version or not though? It was an option on the DSG Audi A3 I had before, I didn't spec it and wish I had :(

The VRS doesn't have it. The Punto I had before did and I miss it a bit, but not enough to be bothered about - it's a nice to have, that's all.

In the UK I think Scouts, L&K and DSG cars get the function. All driven off the ABS.

What's wrong with holding the car on the handbrake like we were all taught when learning to drive? What do you all do, slip the clutch? No wonder my clutch had lasted 150,000 miles plus when I sold it and as far as I know is still going strong somewhere now

It is standard on the DSG. Stops you rolling back on hill starts - if you are likely to roll in the opposite direction to your selected gear (ie backwards in 1st or forwards in reverse) then it holds the brake pressure for 2 seconds or until you apply pressure to the accelerator.

It works really well.

You don't have the option of timing the release of the handbrake to the bite of the clutch with a DSG. On the DSG to disengage the clutches when stationary you have to press the footbrake. Though without the hill hold you do have the option of holding the footbrake with your left foot.

No hill hold on my Octy vRS CR DSG :'(

Oh! :o

My 2010 Elegance 1.8TSI DSG has it. Maybe they think that Elegances are driven by old folk who can't get their slippered feet from brake to throttle as quick as the young blades in their VRS's

Good call guys. I was sure I'd read something about it in the brochure before I bought the car so I spent many a happy moment rolling backwards thinking what's this hill hold all about then.....

I also like driving in slippers.
