what is the differnt between ‎4th haldex and xwd?

Featured Replies

superb used ‎4th haldex system and some of cars like saab used xwd

i want the differences between those systems

thanks

They're the same thing. XWD is Haldex gen 4.

XWD, an acronym for Cross-Wheel Drive, is an advanced all-wheel drive system designed by Haldex in partnership with Saab[1]. Also known as Haldex Generation 4, it is an intelligent permanent all-wheel drive system that can pre-emptively and continuously change torque distribution before wheel slip occurs.

superb's 4th haldex is not the same as xwd (saab, opel). It's missing LSD (limited slip differential) between rear wheels

is it true?

i am waiting the answer

Is it true? You were given the answer, why ask again?

I ordered a superb combi 4x4 last week and i read a lot about insignia.

Opel tell that the Haldex Generation 4 that is on insignia was changed and has LSD (limited slip differential).

In Skoda or in any vw car that has Generation 4 they don't tell anything about LSD.

From what i understood the LSD is good to all the force to be redirected to a specific wheel. So if the Right rear wheel is on air all the force is going to the left one.

With out the LSD on the left one will received only half of the force 50/50.

And also a difference between Haldex system between Insignia and Superb is that on insignia you don't need any period service and on Superb you need to change some filters and oil .. in 30 or 60 k.

9-5 has a Cross Wheel Drive as an option - this is the same 4th gen. Haldex clutch as on Superb and on a lot of different "4x4". But Saab has another option as adaptive suspension which includes eLSD - or electronic slip differential. this is where they differ...

Neither of them is permanent all wheel drive, like on Subaru. Ordinary front wheel drive with switching back axle when front wheels don't have enough grip. This is wise when using an ordinary car in normal conditions occasionally going to more rough conditions or driving in the winter. Then one can see the difference.

I have to say a 104kW 4x4 Superb felt nicer than 125kW FWD Superb. Especially when taking off.
