calling all stage 1 remap owners!

Featured Replies

hey guys,

wel the time has come where i am FINALLY going to get my remap at last  just would like to share your views on a few things, firstly and most importantly, how much of a difference have yous found between standard and mapped? much more fun? also what would be a suitable boost pressure for the best combination of power and reliability?

thanks guys,

jordan

Boost comes sooner, boost gauge says it "idle's" higher on part throttle. boost little higher i believe but struggle to look and be on full boost as its quite out the way atm (soon to readjust that when new mount comes).

Throttle is smoother, at low rev's its less/no 'lumpy' or choke feel.

Throttle more sensitive, making it feel more eager to go somewhere (possibly because of the boost kicking in earlier?).

Keeps climbing linearly till 4+k rpm, bigger kick at 2k, silly amounts of torque steer when you dont feel like feeding the power in when coming out of a corner in 2nd/3rd gear .

New addition to favourite gears is 5th..

cheers for the reply

is the torque steer really that bad?? lol i love second gear in my car but as soon as i engage third it just lacks the kick in the back, so hoping the map will sort this out nicely lol :giggle:

I was literally foot to floor the second I hit the tip of the apex - silly testing if you like. I normally feed in the power so its not noticeable if I drive properly.

nice power all way thru the rev range instead of it all coming at once on a standard map. Nice and smooth at low speed/low rev instead of it bein abit lumpy/jumpy

i have to agree on 5th gear being good :p

Having come from a high reving n/a car it was strange at first to feel the power dying down after 3.5k. The map has made the car smoother and now it pulls hard all the way up the revs. Its just generally nicer to drive now, much more responsive, and has what I can only describe as a improved feeling of nippiness :)

Do you loose the kick in the back that you get from standard?

Even tho the power is spread out, no, you still get the kick, just comes in a little later (I think) just get a nice smooth 170bhp map and it'll be fine

needless to say i cant wait! lol

Doesnt suffer from excessive torque steer.

Go for a normal map from any good mapper (sponsors on here for example) and you will not be unhappy.

It is a difference from normal. Normally the car is at best warm and uninspiring. With map it is a genuienly rapid little car. It pulls well the (albeit 4750) redline and the pull from 1500rpm is great. In samll bursts of speedit really is good - for example 40-80 it took a cars length from my bro's 535i.

Do it, but change brakes and check insurance first.

Can anyone recommend a company somewhere near Buckinghamshire?

personally i wouldn't do it....

a remap in my opinion requires supporting mods...

theres no way i would run a pd130 stock turbo at 170bhp... its just not designed for it...

standard smic can't cope fully, neither can the brakes or clutch!

its an expensive job to do it all properly, if i had the chance to do it again i would sell up and buy an ibiza cupra tdi 160 or something out of the box quicker!

ive seen a mapped pd130 turbo go in phenomenal style... lets just say i couldn't see my nose infront of my face

Unit 18!

Plenty have run mapped pd130's for years with no issues, I think it's hugely down to how you treat the car.

The clutch is the same as the pd160 your recommending, so no problems there.

I never had overheating or heat soak with the stock setup, unless your planning on loads of track days it'll be fine with the smic. As for the brakes, decent pads and discs and the fabia stops perfectly fine, I admit I run 312's but a mate runs standard setup with good discs and pads and it stops very well.

I think it's less about the parts and more about the driver & remapping. There must be literally 1000's of mapped fabias, all running with very little problems, so that proves the parts are up to it. However, drive like a ****, and abuse it, then things will give up. The same goes for the map, get a nice smooth one and it'll put far less stress on the parts

+1 to Matt's comment

I used Gwyn Davies Autotec in Herefordshire for my 182 bhp remap. They are quite small and liaise with another firm but have been remapping diesels for well over ten years. In fact they are diesel fanatics and always preferred diesels when we liked GTis. They used to work on our Peugeot 205 diesel but Peugeot kind of lost the plot with diesels and car design (post 306) so we moved on.

I think for basic overtaking action I actually like 4th the most for passing slow moving (45 mph ish) trucks and so on – especially when you are trying to cruise on a longish country trips – non motorway. The torque in this gear, with my particular remap, seems immense. It allows you, if you know the road very well, to pass in places where you have never passed before. Fifth is also excellent and sixth gear is also great too – especially(obviously)on motorways. Yet the price of fuel right now forces more of an economy drive with the computer trip meter claiming a very nice 55mpg.

as in post 14 [mat's] i think the type of map makes a big difference also, when i bought my car, it ''rammed'' you into the seat at 2.5k then died out almost straight after 3.5ish , so after realising it was already mapped i had the shark map put on and as E11HES will agree its a far smoother map, and surely that will make a big difference to the life of the clutch/turbo etc emoticon-0148-yes.gif

182 from just a stage 1 map? I think not...

i wont be geting my car remapped to 370 something lbs of torque like you did on a standard clutch so i wont have any issues there. as mentioned, clutch is same as pd150 and 160 all be it they run only slightly more torque but i wont be going crazy, 260-270lbs max with peak torqye moved high up rev range plus i drive progressively so hopefully fingers crossed wont have any issues. as for the brakes, they get a lot of stick on here, they may not have an aweful lot of feel in the first quarter or half of pedal travel but its the rest when needed are more than capable of stopping the car. ive driven lots of faster cars which dont stop as quick so it could be worse lol plus at the end of the day, you wont be travelling miles faster than a standard fabia as per the quarter mile times post so not much of a difference. and the smic is more than capable for a bit of spirited road use, i wont be doing any track days so no worrys there. cross that bridge when the time comes. you can only go so fast on the road at the end of the day

To me its all about how u treat ur car and how its maintained! If u constantly rag about then the parts won't last, so warming up and cooling down, regular oil changes and a nice smooth map is ideal

*******s

Mines was mapped by a reputable tuner (very big) but i wont name names as its unfair

At a rolling roaded 173bhp i could heat soak the standard smic after one blast, after that it just had nothing

The standard clutch exploded at 37k miles

Ive had 2 vrs's, needed 2 £880 clutches and a £400 gearbox!

I personally would not remap a standard car ive been there and had massive repair bills

For example the pd160 at 160bhp utilises a bigger turbo than the pd130

What your talking about is putting that standard smaller pd130 turbo upto 170bhp (more than the bigger turbo chucks out) to me its common sense

Same with the intercooler situation! At 160 bhp it has a fmic and your talking about 170bhp on a smic

Ive been there got the t-shirt and didnt want it

I`m not doubting for a second that some cars do have issues, but there are way way more cars running perfectly fine than not. Any mod will have risks, each one will then show another weak link, but a decent map wont cause your turbo to implode instantly, no doubt it`ll wear quicker but not massively so if its looked after. I have 3 mates with PD130`s mapped, none have any major issues, all are still on the original turbo.
