skoda RNS 510 columbus, question to all

Featured Replies

The columbus was never fitted to a car without climatronic. You can get a facia, but it will be black as the MFD2 which is the same shape was fitted to non climatronic cars.

The part will be one of these two.

1Z0 858 069 B 9B9 - Trim for climatic switch for vehicles with navigation system satin black

- £4.76

1Z0 858 069 F 9B9 - Trim for climatic switch for vehicles with navigation system satin black - £4.76

The difference is that one has a cutout for the OEM phone bracket, ask your dealer to ID which one you need, and ask them to order it. it will be the right part when it turns up.

just phoned my local skoda dealer, both numbers were in stock with skoda UK and your prices are bang on mate, but he could not tell which one is right so to cut the hassle i ordered both totalling around 11 squids, one of them has to be the right one.

thanks a lot manny, great help.

i have seen on many places on this site and on web that installation of the GPS antenna is done under the dash board. does that not make the reception and satellite lock difficult, we used to have a GPS DONGLE for tax and it used to sit on top of dash board.

has anyone done the installation under the dash and how has it worked.

Literally everyone doing a retrofit install will install it in that location under the dash. That's 100s of people that I know of. It's a perfect location as there is enough room, a brace bar for fitting to and reception is good.

The latest GPS receivers do not need line-of-sight in order to work, as they're now much more powerful than the original receivers, which was likely fitted to the GPS dongle you've had experience of.

hey guys, today i made myself pround and installed the columbus, thank you ONMEHEADSON, MANNYO, SKIPPY41 AND WARDY everyone for their useful tips,

BUT

it seems ive opened a new pandora box here, here are some points i'll need ur tips with.

-as we all knew the system was sw 1004, is there any later version that does not need a can bus update?

-the navigation is not satisfactory to be honest, it has not even got a postcode search which sucks, can the nav be updated without system update?

-it used a 2GB card but not a 4GB so i think the ceiling is 2GB (thats not a major problem tho)

-it also seems it does not support many video formats such like xvid, avi and mp4 for example.

-the sound quality from SD, HDD, AND MAIN CD is fine but if played from the CD changer the voice is more like average reception radio, plus it does not have a LOUD ON function for something so advanced.

i yet have to connect the antenna splitter when it comes through so i dont know what the radio will be like,

as usuall your tips and advice is much appreciated, photos coming up soon.

Later firmwares and V7 maps support full postcode entry.

Yes but wouldn't the OP then have to change the can gateway?

Not necessarily. There are CAN friendly firmwares out there. :)

plus since my octy was 2006 late registeration, there could be a chance that iam running a better can gateway, what number of gateway should i look for that tells me eighter old or good for upgrade.

Best to check theICE SEcurity & Insurance section on the home page as all Columbus stuff generally goes there. Look for 2664 latest software, but there maybe a new thread with a newer sw version. I haven't checked for a while as mine was fitted at the factory.

thanks for that, i have been on the web as it turns out 2660 will need a canbus update, i just need to get the new maps thats all, the current firmware is fine with me.

today i installed the FAKRA antenna splitter and it works a treat, and as promised here are some pictures of the columbus fitted into a non climatroni model, first time novice job so might look shady.

Yes its a classic, changed the seats got them off ebay £300, also the chromed internal door handles included,, no maxi dot, looking out for a top box with lid,and the lift out storage covers that go either side of the boot so I can store things away

Just waiting on Mike H to get back in touch once he has sorted out his family problems, to change my can gateway so I can update firmware to get 7 digit post codes

Running a single clutch system done 90K on it so far, milage to date 158K

leather seats are the best investment in our line of work thats for sure, ive got an ambient version but it all comes together in elegance or L&K, just had my dual mass and clutch replaced running at 116000 miles, i have looked into upgrading to later firmware but the whole can bus thing sounds more cost and effort, and by the way if u havent updated ur gateway how come you got tv running on ur columbus plus just installing new maps would'nt give u 7 digit pcode search?

Looking good najone! I had mine fitted yesterday by oem retrofits and so so far so good apart from the fact that the HDD froze on me last night while i was trying to delete some music that was left on it. Done a reset and all seems ok now. One thing i cant do is delete the last folder. It says it cant delete active audio. Anyone know how i can get rid of it?

Stick an SD card in and play from that. You can then delete the last folder on your HDD ;)

Once you have a freeview box installed all you do is activate TV with vagcom

can gateways are available for around £70 from ebay but make sure the revision letters are further up the alphabet

find posts by Mike H and he explains how to do it, but if yours car is under 2 years old you might be able just to do a firmware map update without changing the gateway

  • Author

did search for Mike H but could not find anything, to be honest i just want to check the number on my can gateway but dont really know where the kit is located and how to get to it. once i do that i would be able to tell what i need to do with it.

thanks onmeheadson, its a pleasure to have it and so far it has not frozen or anything, and regarding you question you have to exist the active media and then deete the song or folder in question, it would not delete anything that is currently active and running.
