Looking at replacing my MK1VRS with a MK2 VRS

Featured Replies

Hi, I've had my mk1 VRS for 2 years now (the longest I have owned a car) and still enjoy driving it. Im getting itchy fingers however. I've been looking at the mk2 with the 2litre tfsi engine as this seems a natural upgrade. What are peoples opinions on this ? Are they as reliable as the Mk1?

keep the mk1 and mod it,you dont need to go nuts, remap, rear anti roll bar, springs or coilys, full exhaust and fmic. £2000 for all that lot and it'll p*** all over a mk2 vrs.and it'll be 100-150kgs lighter.i got all that kit on mine and i can still get 46mpg out of it if i dont drive it (properly) like a tool. i'll never sell it,ever.......

Already got a rear ARB. If I do keep it the car then remap would be next mod.

Remap will change your mind :o)

I had a mk 1 octy vrs for 2 years & as good as the mk 1 is (in my opinion)the mk2 is a big improvement & i dont regret changing to the mk2 at all, maybe test drive a mk2 & see what you think.

I think the mk1 is slightly faster than the mk2 in standard form. Driven both and driven briskley against a few. 1st and 2nd not much init but once you go into 3rd the mk1 pulls away.

I think the mk1 is more of a driver’s car, it’s more focused, but the mk2 is a nice place to be quieter and better made.

Once you remap the mk1 it comes alive and like mentioned rear arb and suspension will transform the car.

very surprised! i thought the mk2 would pee all over the mk1, oh well    from me!

Both use the same turbo and the mk2 is a little heavier so they should be same sort of performance in stock form. The new face lift with the led running lights looks lush though and is nicer inside.

Whats the weight of the new one?

1375 kg for fsi manual apparently this is the same as the mk1!

Have driven a good few of both models and would say you need to test drive the mk2, has one of my fav engines and sounds really good on full chat, a remapped one absolutely flies too. mk 1 probably be more reliable perhaps and low mileage ones are still great to drive.

My mk2 is way faster than my mk1 was,as others have said the tfsi is a great engine, lots of low down torque & great to drive, for me there is no contest which id have. ;)

mk2's are for gays, real men drive Mk1's

As ive had both does that make me Bi........ lol. :D

Does the TFSI engine have the same turbo kick the 1.8t does?

The dealer today says it doesn't, and has a much flatter torque curve.

I'm looking @ doing the same but going for the vrs diesel . A mate had 1 which had been chipped and it ****ed all over my chipped Mk1 .

I drove the petrol and diesel versions of the mk2 vrs at an Allams day and they didn't feel anywhere as good as my mk1.

Saying that they are lovely to sit in lol.

And I think I preferred the diesel to the petrol :dull:

A MKII is a lot better than the MKI, take it from me :)

Just re read your question! It has the same turbo, not sure what you mean by a kick as the 1.8 dosnt really have a kick unless its mapped or broken ;)

The mk1 is now a car design that is well over 10 years old so it should really be a lot better. I think the new face lift looks really good and the interior has come along quite nicely although I have head there have been problems with drivers seats wearing out. The only thing that would put me off is that a new model will be on the cards soon.

Thanks for comments. Need to convince the other half that we NEED a remap :giggle:

Ollie, was talking to the skoda dealer, and he reckons the new 2.0T motor is a lot smoother than the 1.8t was. Apparently it was done to increase driveability. I know the 1.8T, especially when mapped can be a *bit* akward driving in traffic, and does get a nice turbo surge when booting it.

Having said that, the 1.8T is knocking on a bit now.. Apparently, the new 2.0 TSI is even smoother than the 2.0 TFSI.

I'd like a mk2

I want a spanking new estate but no can do at the mo  a nice white deezly weezly :giggle: oh and a revo and some kw's

Hence my 5x112 ch's ;)

I can't say I've ever felt any issues with driving a 1.8t in traffic?

Probably not specific to the 1.8t TBH, but sometimes you get boost when you don't expect it, and makes it a bit bit jerky, especially if you have a bad remap. Something my old vrs did, but my new (actually older than the old) one doesn't.

Never mind
