DLR's - new bulbs ?

Featured Replies

Have just picked up my new L&K. Got the DRL's in the foglight housing turned on when I picked it up but have noticed they tend to look a bit "yellow" particularly when compared to the pure white of the main headlights.

Has anyone tried putting new "whiter" bulbs in place. Alternatively does anyone know if there are LED based bulbs which could be used in place (guess they would have to have ballast resistors so as not to get the warning system activate).

Thanks !

IIRC they are only supposed to use 40% of the juice of the other 'front' bulbs therefore are designed not to be as bright as the other lights.

SWMBO followed me recently whilst I was in our other motor and I was surprised how bright they appeared in the daytime.

They're not meant to illuminate anything in your path but draw the attention of other road users to your presence so I'd leave 'em be to be honest, but I'm sure others here will disagree.

If you have your headlights on your drls become your side lights therefore will look more yellow than white. that's the case on vrs anyway.

Us non-vRS types have them in the front fog housing. When on they look thus...

I've got to disagree with you Rab-k as the brightness of the bulb is not the point here - it's the colour that needs changing!

Hopefully someone will point the Op in the right direction shortly though.

I know exactly what you mean bazman57!

I changed mine (in my Superb) to these:

MTEC & Xtec bulbs

But they were not white enough for me, so came out almost as quick as they went in (still got them if you like them)

I replaced them with these:

PY21W XENON WHITE CANBUS 27 LED BULBS

Which are perfect IMO, pure white with no errors (will see if I have any photo's of them fitted tonight)

Can't help thinking the whiter lights, including the LED's, don't show up as well compared with the standard bulbs. Isn't the whole point of them that you can see them during the day? Maybe its just the sun on all these photo's, but I prefer the look of the standard bulb and colour from a visibility point of view.

That's a fair point ! I had not considered it from that view.

I think the LED's look good when in a row like the Audi etc etc but when used to replace a normal filament bulb they don't have the same effect.

Thanks everyone who has taken the time to post and give me ideas - just proves what a useful site this is and how helpful some people can be
