Hi,

This isn't for a Skoda - it's for my gf's Mk1 Clio.

I had a spare Parrot Bluetooth I removed from my Fabia, so decided to put it into her ancient N-reg Clio... just for kicks really. She already has an after market Pioneer CD stereo.

The parrot has an ISO connector - so one end plugs into the standard car stereo wiring, and the other plugs into the wiring adapter that came with her Pioneer.

Now the Parrot wiring harness has a mute connection, which I hooked up to the mute going into the back of the Pioneer. But when connected, it mutes the stereo constantly - whether a call is being made or not.

I disconnected the mute wire, and everything works great. Music comes through the speakers normally, then when a call comes through the audio is muted and you can hear the call.

Is it OK to leave the mute connection disconnected?

Thanks,

Andrew

Hi Andrew,

When it mutes the radio, does it say Call, Phone, or something in the radio when you get a call? as it should, if not it is not muting the radio properly, ie, its not muting the radio but its just cutting the sound when you get the call, and can do some harm to the radio if not muted.

On the parrot wiring (as you say) there is a wire marked as mute, but if I remember there is three wires, try the other two !

Hi,

Thanks for that.

Without the mute wire connected - when it mutes the radio it doesn't say mute on the screen. When the wire was connected, it said mute on-screen constantly.

On the parrot wiring, none of the 3 in-built mute wires actually go anywhere on the Pioneer harness. The Pioneer harness just has a mute wire that isn't connected to anything. I connected them using a Scotch-lock connector, which is what made the mute come on constantly.

Hi again

Hope this will help, it was a long time ago when I fitted mine, but if you look on the diagram, it shows one wire coming from the parrot loom, and you connect to one of the three connectors ( I think)

But the radio needs to say mute !

Hi,

Yeh, I found that diagram on the Parrot site.

As per the diagram, the parrot loom has three connectors (all very clearly labelled Mute1, Mute2 and Mute3) but none of the wires actually go anywhere when it gets to the Pioneer loom. The pins on the parrot ISO connector don't meet up with any pins on the Pioneer loom. That's my problem. The Pioneer mute wire is just loose and doesn't go to any pins.

So I manually hooked up the Pioneer mute wire - to the single mute wire coming from the Pioneer box, but it makes - - MUTE - - come on the stereo constantly...

Thinking about it, I think I've just realised what the issue is, perhaps... on that diag the Mute is also bridged across to the loom coming from the car. I bet that's permanently earthing the mute connection and stopping it from working properly...

Its difficult without being there, Son in law had similar problem with a Galaxy, but just was not muting the radio at all, but we found another wire on the radio, which when connected did mute the radio.

so have you got another connection on the radio with a label on with mute ? Just make sure you don't connect to (what I call the blue wire) which is live when the radio is switched on (this is the live for a electric aerial (or antenna booster)

So unless you fancy a trip over to Glossop (nice weather for a drive) we will have to keep trying over the net !

Ps, you have not got a diagram for the radio have you ?

Thanks for all your help.

I know it's not easy describing things on here! I suppose I could pop over if you didn't mind, you're not far away! But it will probably have to be next weekend now... got a fair few jobs on!

The radio is a fairly old Pioneer DEH-P3600MP. http://www.pioneer.eu/eur/products/archive/DEH-P3600MP/index.html

Pioneer don't seem to have a downloadable manual for it on their own site, but I found another one by searching Google.

The operation manual only has one reference to the muting function:

Sound from this unit is muted automatically

when a call is made or received using a con-

nected cellular telephone.

! The sound is turned off, MUTE is displayed

and no audio adjustments, except volume

control, are possible. Operation returns to

normal when the phone call is ended.

The service manual has a wiring diagram for the pins on the back: http://archive.espec.ws/files/DEH-P3600MP.pdf

I've not been out to double check, but I believe pin 8 on the stereo is the one labelled mute on the loom, and that's what I've been hooking up the mute to. Certainly, when you ground that wire the display says - - MUTE - - and the stereo mutes. Leave the wire disconnected, and the stereo functions normally. But as I said before, connect it to the mute wire from the Parrot and it mutes constantly.

Is it definitely a problem not having the mute hooked up at all? As everything functions absolutely perfectly without it (except the stereo doesn't say - - MUTE - -, which I can live with).

Thanks for all your help.

Hi Again Andrew

Last thing first, I would not continue to use the system with out the radio muting, as radio needs a "load" (speakers) if not it can blow the stereo amplifier in the set, so that why you need to switch off the amp (in other words Mute)

The other thing is in your last message you state pin 8 and labeled Mute, but on the diagram you have sent, it states pin 8 and labeled "Tel" so I assume that is what you mean ?

You are welcome to come round and I will have a look, and you mention next weekend, That is fine but you know its Easter ! so drop me a PM.

One other thing, Is the parrot new or not ? cause poss the Parrot is faulty !

Ah, I understand now why the mute is required.

The parrot was removed working from my Fabia last week as I replaced the standard Symphony with a double-din.

When I get a chance I will double check the pin of the mute wire, but like I said I'm pretty sure it's the mute as when grounded it does mute the stereo...

Just nipped out and had a look. I can confirm pin 8 (Tel) is the mute as I thought.
