What to expect from VRS MK1

Agreed there, cone filter in bay will loose you shed loads.

Also I can't understand how you gettin lag? Unless you have a problem.

Depending what you want out of it, a remap is a must and so too is a rear ARB. That will make the extra power usable in the bends as the handling of a std car is......

Well poor to say the least.

Just remember that a well setup car doesn't really need a lot of power to be good. Mine has prob 210 bhp with the generic IP remap on the ecu I have in but the handling more than makes up for it. The proper map on my original ECU for the car was running 226bhp but needs tweeking due to lots of other mods. That is a nice amount for me.

Personally I would get the car ready for lots of power. Then if you so desire you can BT it.

I liked the smoothness of the std map but you needed to rev it to around 5k mark to make headway. A remap will prob give you the power and torque nearer the 3 k mark and make the car a lot easier to drive and use.

All depends on the map really. I have had around 6 maps from diff tuners.

1 Reddot(had 2 diff ones from them and both were **** one made the car inopperable hence why I am a member on here)

2 random "std" map from one of Fatty5000 mates to sort out the above trouble was sfaster than a std map and pritty good

3 APR trial (was a very agressive map for me but nice and fluid)

4 CCCTech Upsolute(total crap. Was nice till 3k then just fell off and dumped the boost and you ended up goin into the windscreen)

5 RSTuning custom map(very nice pulls hard but I have some slight lag at the start which needs ironing out. On hole tho a nice powerfull map)

6 Imposible Performance generic phase 1 map(on the ECU out of the other cmk1 I purchased to fix mine. No lag like the RS one and very nice. I feel its a high boost map tho so only using coz its 1mpl better on fuel lol)

Thoes are my experiences with remaps so just pick yours carefully and do your homework.

Hello and thanks for the advice Billy2981. In all honesty dosent feel like the cone filter has made any affect to the power at all it feels the same, altho it gives a nice sound lol, but I will listen to you guys, well thats why i joined here lol. As far as it goes for a remap, there isnt many places in or arround Middlesbrough so yes doing my homework is going to be hard but there is a place in Northallerton called motorscope and I belive they have a good reputation. But lke I have said its going to be a few weeks before I cand do the remap but thnks for giving me the heads up on what to look for

I don't experince neck breaking in 3rd and above but in first or second my car will snap your neck clean off your shoulder and I haven't even done the remap yet.

As for things pulling away from me...

I have taken on 3ltr diesel audi's and they have never managed to pull away from me,

took on a BMW 325 e36? and I still had loads left to use,

played with my mate and his TT 225,

completely destroyed a 10plate TT the otherday!

I was even keeping moderate pace with my friends M5 estate last sunday.

I have only been bested by one car and that was a BMW 135 msport.

Best car I have ever owned and driven!

Did they all know they were racing you though :giggle:

I have just been on the phone to Motorscope just to see what price Im looking at. he has quoted me £399 + £70 for a roll and road and the remap will give me a further 38 bhp, didnt think it would cost that much, but they have a good rep so its time to save lmao

Maybe get a price off 'shark performance' who are on here, they seem to be very good & i have only read good reviews from people who have used them.

... £399 + £70 ...

that's almost what I paid for my custom jabbasport map

One thing to consider - are you going to want to tune your car further, possibly beyond stage 2 ?

If so, its worth going to one of the proper mappers, capable of supporting you throughout your modding progress, and hopefully giving favorable rates for returning custom.

This may mean travelling a far way, but its worth it for expertise. Folks like jabbasport / r-tech / shark

RS tuning are in Leeds mate. He does APR maps I believe and his own maps. If you have his own map he tweeks it for you if needed for a fair price I do believe. He is on here too.

lmao

Also REVO are a good Map and many places installing that software

Best car I have ever owned and driven!

I witnessed one of these under full acceleration on the way to work. I drive the same route every day and see the same people a few times a week. A dealership near me is owned by a bloke who likes his cars and on this occasion he was in a newish M5. He knows my car and that in the NSL I like to make progress. We went round the roundabout with me behind him and then both accelerated away together. It was like I'd put the brakes on and he'd hit a warp speed button. He disappeared away like the Hoff used to in KITT when they sped up the footage. I've not seen a car move this fast on the road before or since. It was amazing and made me realise that a remapped vRS is nothing special.

I agree though that it's the best car I've ever owned.

haha, love these too

He must be 17, I felt like that when I had my 1.6 mk2 golf

HAHA, I did realise after I wrote it that I sounded like the worlds biggest ****!

Just trying to say, in not so much the right words, that this car has alot to give and as an example, against things that should be quicker I personally don't feel my car puts a foot wrong. I am not a boy racer but no point of having a car like this if you don't have any fun once and a while.

As for the M5, I wasn't keeping up on top speed lol. But we where flowing well together. I didn't think the car was straining to keep pace and it wasn't loosing anything in handeling either.

Just my, hopefully better written, two cents.

Agreed, they are no supercar, but for VFM and 'bang per buck' they are hard to beat.

Yeah I get what you mean by that, he was in front of me and I was slightly looking the other way and he had just disappeared into the distance lol. But on the twisty stuff I felt the car was just working so well.

I was happy with standard power for a month or so...

I then took it to shark performance and its totally transformed the car and puts me and passengers back into the seat

I of corse have a few other mods.

Sorry guys need help again. The engine managment light come on this morning so got the laptop and cable out to read the codes, the code that is coming up is p0411 secondery air injection system incorrect flow detected, I havent got a clue what part this is please can you point me in the right direction thanks

If you open the engine bay or get underneath the car at the front of the block at the base youll see a cylindrical air pump.

Can you hear it working on cold start? Its likely the pump has died or the air pipes going to the inlet (airbox) have an issue.

rip it out and put a resistor in place, its a waste of time.

rip it out and put a resistor in place, its a waste of time.

What's it actually for? just adding additional air to inlet on cold start?

what's involved in removing it and where does the resistor go?

Sorry for all the questions, new to VAG so trying to learn as much as i can as i always do all the work on my car myself
