Autoexpress Go Fabia Mad

Featured Replies

This week in Autoexpress:

Fabia vRS tested: They like it. Petrol version on the way apparently!

Plus a news acticle that states a three due Fabia will arrive next year. It will include an vRS version with 150bhp 1.8 turbo!

Rumortastic!

Sweet , I hope they are right , it would be stupid of Skoda not to put out a petrol vRS Fabia.

3 door 1.8T Fabia does bring the phrase "sorry Seat, was that your toes?" to mind.:)

Ahhhhhhh - That's the sweetest news to my ears for some time. Why the hell not go the whole hog and stick the same 180HP block in?

EDIT: Is there a web link to the article, by any chance? Or do they want us to go out and buy the mag! :D

Even if it is only 150 , i take it that it will be the VVT plus DBW engine , so the possibility for 230BHP will be there!

yeehawwwwww!!!

i foresee lots of fun being had in wee fabias in the not too distant future!

Its about bloody time. People are going to start moaning, like me, that Skoda are using a 300HP engine in their WRC car, and not bothering to stick anything decent in the road going car.

Oh my pants! Petrol turbo version ahoy! Skoda UK coming to their senses? Surely not?

This sounds brilliant and might save Skoda vs Seat. Evo gave the Fab RS a bit of a crap write up - said it handled well and had great torque but was seriously unexciting when trying to overtake etc (ie need to keep changing gears to hit the right rev areas). A 1.8T engine in the Fab however would be a very inteersting prospect ..... but must admit I tend to disbelieve Autoexpress as maybe hoping rather than knowing :(

If it does happen will have to trade in the wife's Beeza pronto :D

I'll be trading in my TDI, my mother, my left leg (have to get an auto), and the rest of my life.

Noooo - put the 150 hp chip in! Will make the base price lower! And - as we all know - has the same performance upgrade range! For the same amount of money!

BTW, is that all you want to trade in, Jason? :D

Hmm - on second thoughts, the 150HP is probably better, if the upgrade potential is still the same. However, if I can remap my own TDI out to 150HP anyway, then the only choice I have is petrol or diesel? Omitting the fact I can upgrade the petrol even higher :D

Auto Express tend to put the magazine on sale before the site is updated. I get an e-mail weekly from them and since my last was on the 19th I'd expect the site to be updated tomorrow.

There's some stuff on the site now - look for "fabia vrs" under the previews section.

Last paragraph of which states:

"That said, if the idea of a diesel hot hatch appals you, don't despair - the vRS will be available with a new petrol engine in the foreseeable future. Peugeot and Renault had better watch out!"

Another interesting quote (from a petrol fabia driver's POV...)

"Power delivery is very smooth, and the six-speed gearbox makes the most of the mighty slug of torque - something that's crucially important, given the 4,500rpm red line."

How does that rate to other diesels? Been a long time since I drove one and I don't think it had a rev counter!

most new diesels rev round towards 5k.... much better than the old "smokey " days...

re the Fabia vRS petrol... i agree it would be a storming machine... but would mean the Octavia needed more power or sales would drop away...

Definitely have to keep me eyes open for more info on the petrol version. Wonder if they would use the new FSi engines instead of the 1.8T's

not sure if they would... Skoda never seems to get the latest engines... would upset VW/Seat too much....

Not that it bothers me in the slightest. I'd prefer the 1.8T. From what I heard at Jaba, they rate the engine as one of the best engines they have had the pleasure of modifying. :D

IMO they would push the Furbie RS out with 150 as standard so that the Octy RS could still be the range leader and there would be a price and performance gap between the 2 cars. This would make more sense when building the Fabia RS into the current Skoda range.

It would be really interesting if Skoda brought out a 1.8T version of the vRS Fabia, especially oif the price tag was around

I was trying to be diplomatic....but if im honest I think it ate it up to the knee and then moved onto the Bora /A3/Leon /3 series compact/ Avensis / Primera etc...

aren't we kidding ourselves a little here? GTI sales are still pretty strong AFAIK, and there are some VERY quick Golfs out there ...
