Grrr

Getting a rotational squeak/knock from the front, at first I thought it was the spacers as it only happened when corning but now it's happening just rolling forward so I'm almost certain it's the brakes... I know people argue about it being impossible to warp discs and it's pad that's bonding to the disc, well whatever it is I think it's happened and that's shocking for under 2,000 miles... I always do a cool down lap/drive, I even go as far as to never using my hand brake and just leave it in gear and still they've ****** up. If that's the case it means buying new discs (won't go for EBC again) and as I'm a fussy **** it will mean I have to replace the rear discs to match too. Along with new pads both front and rear you're looking at a LOT of money which is lame as **** considering they were all brand new under 2,000 miles ago. Sooo annoying.

If it's warped discs get your self to a quiet NSL road and brake quickly down to 10mph from 60mph and see if that helps

How often are you on a track to drive that hard??

I've done about 60-80 minutes track driving in the last couple of weeks.

Had the same happen to me about 800miles after fitting new pads and discs to front...problem..the caliper to piston seal had gone hard (well it was 10yrs old) which was stopping the piston fully retracting, leving the pads slightly in contact!! Solution...strip pistons from calipers, clean crap of piston, replace all seals....solved! B)

The calliper was rebuilt under 2,000 miles ago though, surely it can't be that already?

Don't know for sure...if you do alot of track driving then the seal could have gone hard (exessive heat)...strip it all down and re-check...process of elimination I'm afraid :(

I get this too!! With only 5000 miles since new pads and discs all round, I also get a high pitched rotational squek when crawling in first and second? Goes away when I corner unlike the rotational rubbing noise, how hard a job is it to take the calipers apart and replace the seal or does it just need cleaned?

Yeah same! Squeak when crawling, but then starts knocking when going fast, and then when I corner to the left it knocks like crazy.

Thats a bit more info...right then is the arm/slider where the pads sit level with nothing to catch the pads?? Is there proper Copper Grease on all the pad back to caliper contact point (I don't care if there are anti-squeel shims as not allways fool proof). When the brakes are cold go for a drive and periodically stop and feel the heat from them..does one feel hotter than the other...does it smell??? If no then and all the slider arms, pads etc are all greased (don't get any on the disc or pad contact surface..bin job then) and the bolts are all ok then the only other thing is the main wheel bearing/hub unit has failed! What happens is the side thrust part of the bearing fails which under load allows the wheel to move slightly outwards causing the disc to kiss the pads! B)

Caliper bolts or bearing. I agree.

But possibly warped discs depending on the type of knocking noise your getting. And it is entirely possible to warp discs I don't care what anyone says.... I've done it and measured the bend in them when I took them off!

that pic with the glowing disc is a good indication to why you have warped them...

the heat that would generate to the pad will make the pad surface 'stick' to the disc  creating a raised spot on the disc where the pad material is left

I took the photo and then went for a cool down though, it was stopped for like 10 seconds

doesnt matter

even if your giving it some then stop at a junction and sit on the brakes the damage is done...

could be a number of things, could be a stone stuck in the caliper... or anything, best to have a butchers

Think I need to grease mine up

Brakes tend to squeak/squeal but, have heard of them knock with brake-pad rock. (Pads moving up/down when braking forwards/backwards.)

I would lean towards a CV drive joint that's knocking, when decided which side is doing the knocking.emoticon-0148-yes.gif

A squeak/squeal would not be heard above 20mph and the application of the foot-brake should immediately stop the squeak/squeal,

unless pads are metal to metal with the brake discs.

night time track day?

Perhaps an evening emergency stop Cliff......

Not seen my disks glow from 70mph! ;)

Perhaps an evening emergency stop Cliff......

what was the emergency? Camera batteries were about to run out :)

Top work getting them to glow though.

My alloys have been too hot to touch on my track days but never glowing discs (although it was day light so maybe they were!) ;)

There's plenty of stray deer around the dartford area at this time of year!!! :p

Quick!!!

To his defence!

Before he gets found out for how he actually drives on the road.

Im getting excactly the same. Squeeking below 20 when slowing down or slowly speeding up. And some kind of wierd knocking noise.

Also checked my brakes and the inside of the discs have a lip on them so presume there sticking on the inside (312mm audi tt brakes)

Grinding noise only starting from cornering then over a short amount of time comes on the straights too....... will be Wheel Bearing or Outer CV.
