Just so show off... has anyone beaten this with a petrol fabia?

Featured Replies

OKay so after using a fabia on/off for 5months now i finally discovered it had a trip computer telling me average mpg and range etc etc

This made me greatly interested to see just what fuel economy the 1.4 8v Fabia comfort is capable of.

i did my standard 36mile commute to work on a mixture or countrylanes, A21 main road a a small amount of dual carriageway left at 7am arrived at work at 8am

finished work at 5:30 got home 6:45pm so travelled right through rush hour on the roads

the two journeys totalled 74.1miles and i got an average MPG of 62.4, i took a pic of it on my blackberry but don't know how to post it on here.

what fuel economy do my fellow petrol powered briskodans get???

I manage 38-42mpg (driving :giggle: ) on local back road 36mile trip or 86mile trip. Normally I get 42-46mpg. Max I've ever got is 52mpg on along trip the Newcastle (440milesish)and that was staying with the flow of traffic speed, max of plus 10mph over, eg in a 60mph zone speedo might read max of 67mph.. and that took some doing and carefull driving!! I was first learning to drive back in 1991 and considering thats a petrol 1.4 8v what ****ing slow speed are you doing??? are you scared of the accelerator??? have you stripped out all the interior and spare wheel??? :wonder:

Don't foget the trip computer can be massivly over-optimistic. Mine was about 10% out, so the 45mpg I used to get was nearer 40mpg.

okay i didn't venture over 50mph once in the journey but i didn't get overtaken(i quite often do) either so wasn't going that slow.

car is completely standard, and boot was full of rubbish i was meant to take to the tip.

i learnt to drive in 2006.

anyone else??

be interesting to see if any of the diesels manage much better.

can't wait to get my Greenline and manage my target figure of 100mpg

The most I have had out of my PD100 Fabia is 66mpg, but average between 45-50mpg and most of my journeys are less than 10 miles

You were on a duel carridgeway.....was this a 70mph speed limit zone...if so..you also admit to doing 50mph!! no wonder you got overtaken....you ought to have a warning sticker in the back window.....also the cops if they see you will pull you over as it is dangerous to do 50 in a 70 zone!!

Some vechiles have a 50mph speed limit on DC's anyway.

In fairness to the OP, he coulda been on a SC and still get overtaken.

I'm well aware of the speeds that all different vehicles are supposed to do on the diffent classes of roads in this country, just that the police and the IAM reguard purposly going slower that the conditions allow, eg weather, traffic, condition of the vehicle, condition of the driver, road speed limit etc. etc. as being "obstructive" and not paying due care and attention to the road!

My record is now 53.6mpg. I could still get more if I turned off the aircon and slowed it down further. not sure if I can be bothered to go to that extreme, I would get too bored. :giggle:

You didn't go over 50mph on the A21, despite it being 2 lanes in places? And didn't get overtaken? lol :)

I'd have been past you in a shot, some of us have to work you know :D

I know that stretch well, plenty of overtaking places...

I know this thread is petrol economy, but the best trip mpg we have got with our cars. It was taken 12 April 2010 with my dad driving my mum's car (1.9 TDI Fabia).

From a 8 mile journey and the outside temp was 9°C.

He said if he hadn't stopped at 3 sets of traffic lights it would have been at least 95 average. Also it was done from a cold engine.

I call bullstuff ;) Possibly with an 8mile downhill journey i could believe it, but driving ~100ish miles a day myself in my 1.9tdi i find it very hard to believe in a 90mpg

If you look closely at the photo the bottom right hand digi screen has a spanner showing!! Thats why hes getting 92.9mpg

Every weekend for the last 3 years i've been doing a 120mile run and back again, mostly motorway. And usually when people are asleep in bed or just brushing their teeth. The trip computer reports between 54mpg and 62mpg and it all depends of course on how heavy my right foot is. If i'm careful and stick to between 65-75mph then i will get into the 60's mpg. If I do 80+ then i get 54mpg Which is still very good. Again according to the trip computer but overall on a full tank i see anything between 420-500 miles.

I haven't beaten it in an sdi! :(

iirc the most i have had out of mine was 62 mpg and that was on a 26 mile trip to work going between 60-70 most of the way depending on traffic. however most fo the time i get 55mpg going about 70-80
