Featured Replies

Hi all can anyone shed some light ive just brought a new alternator pulley and belt tensioner as my old one has seized and broke the tensioner. Is it possible to repair it myself or should i take it to the garage. Is it poss to change the pulley whilst the alt is still in place or have i got to drop it out as it looks like ill have to move the ac pump first. This is a 110 tdi does anyone know of any links to a vid or somat as ive you tubed it and cant find anything..

It is Octy tradition where multiple people have the same issue at the same time

The pulley can't be changed in place. I removed the PAS pump, turbo hoses, cambelt cover, headlight, indicator, smaller rad fan and then I had reasonable access to the alternator.

Removing the alternator was a right pain, it has some bushes with jam out requiring a lot of wiggling and leavering to get it out - probably a good hour of effort in my case. Mine exited from above, some people have got theirs out from below I think.

To change the pulley on the alternator you need a special tool (or a friendly garage). Re-assembly is pretty easy.

They ain't nice to do, you also need a special tool for the pulley.
