Windows Mobile 7

Featured Replies

I got one these just over a week ago in the form of an HTC Trophy. Not sure it was the best plan as the thing seems to be rather unstable and keeps rebooting. It is branded with Vodafone firmware and seems to chomp through its battery in about half a day  And it has a very annoying habit failing to make a noise/vibrate when a txt message arrives.

I have had a quick google, but failed to find much. I am planning on taking the phone back to the shop and getting them to swap it for another one, but before I go back I would like to backup my pictures, txts, etc. The contacts I have syncing in via Live! so I need not worry about that.

I have Zune installed, but I am not quite sure what that does - it did provide a firmware update (which has not improved stability), and the HTC hub has updated itself too, but last night it rebooted twice.

Is anyone familiar or any good sites specific to WM7? I am almost thinking that switching back to my old Nokia e66 would a good idea!

Thanks

The not ringing bug was in 6.5 as well.

Winmo7 is an unstable platform say my friends employer. So they've gone for Android to keep the functions thee need without blackberry data premiums.

Did you not fancy a Desire HD?

Hi. Microsoft just brought out a great app for the iPhone. Interestingly they say there are no plans to bring it out for windows 7 due to stability problems. Confidence, no !!

Im a WP7 user, and have to say i have yet to find a good forum for questions on it. I tend to use www.everythingwm.com, but its not particuarly good.

I have a HTC HD7, its a pretty good phone, but does reboot occasionally (although the recent update seems to have stopped that). Not had any issues with the phone not rining/vibrating, although mine does occasionally have issues with the Mic not working when you answer the phone.

To be honest, i think the HTC phones are pretty poor for WP7 judging from the various articles i've read (which is strange as the Andriod community love HTC). Yet i have a friend with a Samsung, and he absolutely raves about it, and has nowhere near the problems i have.

Zune is just Microsofts answer to itunes. Does the job reasonably enough.

I really like WP7. Its a very pretty, very quick, very easy to use phone OS, and the latest update has given it the stability it should have had from launch. If i had a time machine, i'd have waited till now to get a WP7 (instead of Nov last year), and i would have not got an HTC.

What app is this then?

I know the WP7 comunity keeps getting annoyed that apps go to the iPhone before the WP7, yet i've not heard about anything not making it to the WP7 at all.

Hi. It's called Photosynth.

Hi. It's called Photosynth.

A very quick search shows it cant come to WP7 just yet, due to a couple of missing APIs, which will be available with the next update.

Thats hardly "Interestingly they say there are no plans to bring it out for windows 7 due to stability problems".

Okay. So Microsoft still can't bring it to windows 7 before bringing it to the iPhone. Misplaced priorities or what? Also stability problems do exist that will be overcome. However, the fact therefore exists that even Microsoft find developing for iPhone easier than for their own platform.

I remember WinMob from my old Samsung Omnia phone. Absolutely horrendous platform for any device, never mind a mobile phone. I swore I would never use it again.

WinMob 7 looks pretty slick on the ads but the very idea of it fills me with nausia.

Why?

When Android was in its infancy, some Google apps were coming to iPhone before Android.

Do Microsoft limit their audience for a couple of months, and lose market share for applications, just to appease WP7 users? Or just live with the fact that they will be depriving Apple/Google from some income, by people using this applcation now on iOS?

I certainly don't blame Microsoft for looking at the bigger picture. That said, its not an app im interested in, if it was something good, i might be one of the angry WP7 users

WM7 is as total rebuild from scratch, so there is no code reuse from the older versions of WM as I understand it.

I'll give that a look at - thanks

One of my mates has a HD7 and his seems stable since the latest (March) update. Infact since mine applied the March update (2 days ago - go figure!) it has not rebooted since. Still had the lack of txt message alert (not checked to see if it fails to rings at this point). Battery life seems to have improved as well now.

I always thought HTC made good handsets

How does one backup/export txt messages? PC Suite did this for my Nokia's without any hassle. I do like the Live! addressbook syncing between it and Outlook on my PC at home - one central address book is handy for when I am not at home.

I, too am liking the interface, just wish the few odd quirks were not there, plus the lack of Bluetooth for images/contacts, etc. Hopefully that will be fixed by a future update.

Shame the Trophy does not have the connect block at the bottom so it could sit in a charge cradle on my desk.... But I guess this is the lower end of the market for the phone :giggle:

I dont know of a way of doing that.

Zune seems able to do a full backup, or just music/videos/apps, nothing else that i've found.

I got the phone swapped yesterday (although I was outside of my 7 days swap period).

It has now applied the Feb update, but now thinks it is up-to-date and both the Phone & Zune refuse to install the March update for me. I feel for any people people who get one of these phones a few months on and then have to go through all the updates, one at a time, a few days apart.....

I have seen how I can modify the phone with a 16gb micro-sd card rather than the 8gb which is currently in it. I might give it a few days to see if it is stable, and then do that :p

The march(well April) update is being rolled out slowly. I wouldnt worry personally, it'll turn up soon.

Make sure you pick a decent WP7 certified card. Microsoft use the cards as part of the OS memory, so if you get the wrong one, you can dent the performance of your phone.

Sandisk class4 16gb microsd is what I saw being banded around.

I am now mid battle with Vodafone, as the new phone has the same fault as the one I took back. Vodaonly seem to stock one other Win 7 phone (can't remember the details of it now), so I might have to swap to that. PITA as I just bought a case for this one (that was when I was hoping the replacement handset would fix the problems).

Have you seen WD Bench as a tester/performance app?
