Mpg pls

Featured Replies

Ok so I have had the mk1 vrs for a few weeks and love it, but with mixed driving around town I can't do any better then 24 mpg even if I am on a go slow is something wrong I thought I would get a good 32 mpg around town?? Thanks all.

I have a re-mapped 1.8t (not vrs) estate and too and from work(6 miles each way on an A road with 3 30mph towns, I average just over 30mpg, and i'm not on a go slow, driving round town( about 30 mins stop/start) today still averaged 30ish mpg

It depends a lot on how you drive and with what things you have on eg. Climate control knocks a fair few mpg off. In stop start and standing traffic I usually get high 20's to low 30's but on a long motorway run can get low 40's.

On the motorway I can get 40's just around town can't get near 30

What VRS is it, MK1 Fabia or Octavia ??

being in the mk1 ocy section of the forum i'd say he means a mk1 ocy.

my vrs always combined average is always 32.5/6 mpg

daily run 39-42mpg dependent of traffic

around town driving briskly 24/25mpg

best mpg

Yeah I got mk1 octy, maybe a service may help? Or loose some weight? :giggle:

if you are stopping and starting in traffic, the MPG will suffer a lot. Seems that your engine is doing OK as on longer runs the economy is OK. My avg is 29 with some motorway and town driving.

I get 40mpg on a run 25-27mpg round town, not great but I love the vRS :)

just a thought, on the mpg there are two settings 1) ave per trip 2)over all since fill up. my sons says his does 40>43 mpg, my vrs only did 37>38 could understand why

until he showed me. when looked was doing 41mpg lol

(WHEN ON MPG) you can see on the right of the mpg which setting you are on 1 or 2 PRESS THE RESET BUTTON TO FLICK BETWEEN THE TWO :giggle:

Mines been mapped with the mods below in my signature and i get 42 on a run. Probably about 32 round town.

I must be doing something wrong then lol, my partner said get the mk2 tdi I said if you want a vrs it's got to be petrol right?

Dunno why you're getting that low mpg. My best is 56.8 in my Octy VRS. It's got a Motech X-map and still does well on mpg. Around town 36 mpg is fairly normal, 26-30 in proper queues and at least 40 on a good motorway run. Get it serviced and have a look at the emissions maybe? May well be overfuelling?

Without wanting to be a sceptic... some of the quoted MPG's sound quite high. I mean I can get my trip computer reading into the 40's but by actually working out the economy it has never been higher than 37mpg, normally just short of 35mpg.

My average over the last 600 miles is 28.4 MPG.

I used to get 35 plus.

Might be time to do full service spark plugs, fuel filter etc.

Got to agree i'm afraid. I'm sure the figures quoted are all genuine, but not really town driving where you live in a city or busy region. During peak hours most of my journey to work is in 1st, 2nd or 3rd gear so will not get that much over 24mpg overall. Yes i can get 40+ mpg on an easy run down to the coast, but overall after 2,000 miles of driving and tracking my mpg it states just over 30. That compares to 17 in my previous Audi Quattro and 26 in my Forester S/TB, so i'm relatively happy with that.

Also i'm not sure how accurate the trip computer is anyway, so always judge my mpg on how many miles i get between fill ups and fill up at pretty much the same level each time. Typically get about 300 to the tank plus or minus 30 miles dpending on how much traffic i have driven through that week.

I think mid 20's to 30's is good for me as most of the time I do town driving.

I have averaged about 29 MPG over the last 10,000 miles, according to Spritmonitor.

On a run can just about squeeze 40 if I cruise at 65-70. Usually gets closer to 35 tho ;)
