Handbrake Setting

Featured Replies

This a bit of a puzzle guys :wonder: ,

Prior to putting the car through the MOT 2 weeks ago (passed no advisories). I fitted new rear pads (after first winding both cylinders back), front disks + new front pads (std Skoda parts)

I then adjusted up the handbrake so I had the 1 mm gap on the actuator arm / stop on both rear brake cylinders.

The yoke that the cable ends float in (accessed behind hand brake inside the car), when viewed, you could see it would pull evenly, ie: it was at 90 deg to direction of travel.

When I looked today it was tipped round at about 30 deg to travel as if on one side the new pads had worn more which doesnt make sense as I had made sure both

operated the same rate and didnt drag.

The nearside still has the 1 mm gap but the offside now has a gap of about 4-5 mm (with the handbrake released). Ive tried pentrating oil on the mechanism on both sides,

operating with a spanner. They both move fairly easily, also the pads arnt dragging (not overheating).

My question is :-

Can the actuator arm (thats held on by one nut) on the back of the cylinder, be removed and moved round radially to compensate, is it on a spline, keyway or hex' cutout ,

or, is this uneven cable pull normal?.

Thanks

Peter
