Mongrel is ready for track! (and now dead as a result)

Featured Replies

All cleaned up, wheels changed for track ones. Taking along 6 wheels as spares too as hoping to have 6 totally bald ones by the end of the day :D All thats left is to pack the car up with said wheels, some tools, spare water/meth, baggage for weekend away. And a final check of fluids and wheel bolt torques at the circuit tomorrow.

PS: Liking the look of the TT 6 spokes, especially as they clear brembos with no spacers, but they sure weigh a ton compared to Superleggeras.

Looking good Jason, just got mine ready too, just need to go and fill the tank in a bit and I'm done - oh and decide if to take an umbrella or not!

  • Author

No umbrella needed. ;) Mine's staying at home!

What tyres are you running?

  • Author

Some half worn T1Rs on the front, and some wosname rubber on the back that came with some wheels I bought a while back "Kaiser" :D I put them on the back in the hope of some probable liftoff oversteer moments. ;) Spare wheels are 4 superleggeras with my road going T1S tyres on, and another pair of TT 6 spokes with worn Vredestein ultrac sessantas on. They'll go on the front once I have worn out the T1Rs. Aim is to change back to the superleggeras after the trackday.

Cool thanks.

WEAPON!!! :)

Jason and I will certainly be providing the smokiest cars tomorrow that's for sure :giggle:

I am surprised how capacious the car is with no back seats :D Nothing in the front and all EIGHT wheels/tyres + gear, etc went in the back easy. Should still be able to re-arrange a bit to fit in a 6 speed box when I get it tomorrow evening. Just an overnight bag to pack now and a quick think about what could be useful and what I've not taken. So far "useful" things taken are:-

Duck tape

Cable ties

various spanners

insulation tape.

Now just debating whether to chuck a bucket and my mitt in the back to give the car a brush-up before the dyno day on Sunday....

let us know how yous get on :) will you be using your new video mount simon? get some vids? :)

I will indeed be filming, I did film at Castle Combe a few weeks back if you missed that too. Its in the trackday section on here.

I have a trolley jack packed and some ratchet spanners, oh and a hammer and mallet :giggle:

  • Author

I might use that jack for a wheel change as I don't trust my scissor 100%. On my tarmac drive it is no problem to safely jack the car up so both side wheels come up at the same time, but wouldn't fancy it on anything but a concrete type surface....

Fingers crossed I have no need for a mallet or hammer! :D

What's this making now Jase?

Never been tempted to get the B Pillars wrapped?

This must be officially the fastest non vRS now? Surely?

Well, 275.3 bhp and 380 lb/ft - unless it does more on Sunday.

ummmm... Careful with the Sessantas, they have a very grippy reputation.... that the Kaisers probably don't.

  • Author

LOL :D Well, I am hoping that as Llandow is very grippy, it will cook all four wheels, and I can switch to Sessantas & more worn out T1-Rs later on, for the back. We shall see. Been out for a drive before I started packing the car and grip generally felt good all round although I didn't push it far on public roads.

All packed now. Room for a 6 speed gearbox in there right? :D

i wish i could go to things like that :(

A jack would be handy, if you are changing wheels :-)

Had a great day yesterday, although my tyres are now pretty ruined. Such a tight circuit and lots of torque :giggle:

Here are some photo's I have found of the day, Jason and I are in there somewhere, will put the few I have up soon along with a video. http://www.mmphotos.co.uk/bertie23#!__bertie23

Well, the mongrel is now officially "dead" for some time.

The blowing exhaust manifold eventually became SNAPPED exhaust manifold, so the car immediately become very loud, limp mode, and generally nasty. Had to drive over 400 miles like it too. :( My custom tubular affair has snapped right where the turbo flange meets the collector pipe. Not had a chance to check properly yet, but going to let the garage do it. Looks like I am taxing a spare car of theirs and running around in it for a fair while (Pug 806 runs on veg oil :D)

Good trackday, just a shame it broke one of the most expensive pieces of modified machinery on my car..... [sigh]

The manifold in question, on tacked up only mode before proper welding up.

What a PITA. Sorry to hear that

Always like seeing what you are up to on here.

Bugger, sorry to hear that mate. It certainly sounded like something was blowing when I first heard it, but never thought it would crack the manifold!
