BHP

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

I have been running my 03 superb 1.9tdi 105 bhp for 6 years now, it has served me very well but its time to move on.

My question is what is the highest BHP I can get on a MK1 superb with a 1.9 tdi engine ???

I was looking at something like a 08/58 elegance 1.9tdi.

All replies will be appreciated.

BTW fantastic forum.

thanks

Stock, 130.

It depends if you are ready to throw money after tuning it.. But yes, as Fred wrote, stock is 130.

not sure if the 130 was still available for 58 reg...

No it was discontinued in 2005 for the 2.0tdi. you might find an 06 plate but thats about it. Basically when they did the facelift the 130 was stopped. 105/140 where available in 08/58. DO NOT BUY A 2.0TDI in a superb though.

So what choice of BHP do I have on a 08/58 model 1.9 tdi classic/comfort/elegance ??

If a 140 BHP model is available on a 08/58 1.9TDI then it is even better !!!

I definitely will not buy a 2.0 because 2 of my friends bought a passat and audi a4 both 2.0tdi and both of them had to replace engines.

thanks

140bhp TDi Superb is a 2.0 Litre, to be avoided.

Obviously you can map a 130bhp 1.9tdi to around 170. I have done this with a Passat 130 and it was very good, and safe for the engine too.

Cheers,

Rob

Rob, how much did this remap cost you??

is it economical and safe for engine and other parts??

cheers

Hi,

The remap cost me 300 euro here in Ireland, and yes it is safe for the engine. The guy who did it for me here does a lot of work in this area and in Rally cars etc. He said the 130 engine can be wound up to over 200 bhp, but not recommended for day to day use. Economy wise, well it depends on you're driving style but personally I found little difference.

Hope this helps,

Rob

Sorry for dragging on, 1 more question don't the brakes, suspension parts, other parts need upgrading after a remap from 130 to 170 ????

will the original parts be able to cope with the extra power running through them?

Pretty much stock will be alright. Personally I find the brakes on the MK1 Superb to be underpowered anyway and I would upgrade them to the bigger 2.5 V6 discs and callipers as has been recommended on this forum. That's on my to do list, as is the springs, I find them very soft indeed, especially on B roads,( I would consider a 30 to 40mm lowering spring to tighten it up without loosing too much ride quality). Neither of these however would be essential after a remap, but it would suit the character of the car with the added power. It's all down to how much you want to spend..... With major engine mods (changing the turbo, intercooler etc), the 1.9 can be mapped to around 250BHP, but this would not be recommended if you want the engine to live a long happy life..!! Many guy's on here will say just leave it alone, and there is a good argument for that as it is a good solid unit in stock format, but it's all personal taste and budget dependent..

Hope this help's and best of luck,

Rob

Yeah, I'd say leave it well alone, throwing good money at a car that takes more power on board like a jelly on springs and is now virtually worthless anyway. Worth even less when messed about with too.

Well said.

The 1.9 PD Superb in standard form is a useful piece of machinery if you have a job for it. Gently driven, its economy still surprises me and it goes well enough if you row the boat.

Modifications will inevitably lower reliability and throwing more money at a car with cliff-edge depreciation is just plain stupid. If the car as built is not right, you should have bought something else.

rotodiesel.

The Headmaster has spoken..!!!

the 140 is the 2.0 engine

thinking back, when the 130 was dropped it was replaced (initially at least) with a 115 version, to distance it from the 140 but still offer more than the 105 - like this one here

http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201114384046703/sort/priceasc/usedcars/engine-size-cars/1-7l_to_1-9l/maximum-age/up_to_4_years_old/model/superb/make/skoda/radius/1500/page/1/keywords/elegance/postcode/wa157ay?logcode=p

remap? I'm a bit tempted, but there's a good amount of torque in my 130 and I recall a couple of posts here from people with clutch problems. Both of whom had remaps...

cheers
