variable servicing

Featured Replies

As I said in thread after I collected my new VRS CR170 a few weeks back they told me it was set to fixed and that it had to be SUK policy to which I kicked off a little and said change it NOW please. Guy got a techie out who plugged into it with a machine and played with it for a couple of min then said there thats it changed to variable.

I checked it after I worked out how on the maxidot and it said like 390 days or so to go but only had 50 odd miles on it at this point so assumed it will take time to work itself out. Checked yesterday now with just over 500 miles on the car it is saying 330 days !!! and 8000 miles !!! Is this thing on variable or what ?? I am out of the country with the car and will not be anywhere near the dealers again for the foreseeable future prob ever. :o

It may take a while longer to work it out and even then it may depend on your driving style.

If you are not going to the dealers for servicing then why worry about it it still has the extended oil in it..

Yea hopefully so I have a 2-3K mile drive to do in a couple of weeks in it should get a better reading after that car has had a more than easy life so far with regards to being pushed hard 28 hour drive will baptise it shortly :D can't wait. I am intending to keep it skoda serviced but not at dealers I got it from as its not local to me but was best deal for me, have a extended warranty on it so want to keep it all right and ive never found skoda overly expensive to service threw provided its variable of course :D

Once set to variable the time to next service should say ----- for a period of several hundred miles whilst the computer calculates its initial estimate, it should then say something around 18,000 miles or 600 odd days, it sounds like the OPs car is still set to fixed servicing. The dealer spoke tosh when mentioning the SUK policy, all SUK Octy, Yeti and Superb models are set to variable from the factory (QG1 code in book).

If you can find someone locally with VCDS they can set it for you without the need to go back to the dealer, get it done ASAP though otherwise it will not calculate correctly.

This

I had a conversation with my dealer before I picked mine up as I wasn't sure if I wanted fixed or variable.

He said they all come from the factory set as variable and they never recommend changing to fixed.

As Mannyo says, check your data sticker under the boot floor and you can see what it was set to in the factory. I'm sure the owners manual tells you exactly where the code should be printed.

+1 thats on fixed....It will say 600odd days and about 18k if its on variable.

cheers for the info guys :( am fuming dealers might get a call with some aggression now will suggest they contact my local skoda dealers in Holland and ask them to sort it and pay anything they want for the time in advance !

Yep, you're definitely on fixed. I checked mine last night and it's very different from yours.

It now has 700 miles on it (nearly 3 weeks old) and says 18000 miles or 725 days until first service.

Thanks to all replies it saved me from leaving it until after i do a few thousand miles over next few weeks and messing service schedule all up. I contacted the dealers I bought from who change all their cars to Fixed (Motorline Skoda Dartford) the sales man I delt with remembered me and that I had asked for it to be changed etc and that he had a guy come out with computer plug in and do it he took my number and said hed see what they had to say and call back ...... still no call back

Mean time I drove to my local Dutch Skoda dealers and asked them if it was on fixed or variable they were shocked that the UK dealers had changed this to fixed and said the usual its long life oil why are they doing this etc etc then took keys told me to put my feet up have a coffee in their lounge and would sort it 5-10 min later my keys are brought back to me and the VRS is parked at a nice angle by main entrance looking smart in the sun (they had NO VRS's in showroom at all they are rare here) I asked how much I owed them intending to get money back from motorline and he laughed and said "No its free it shouldn't have ever been set to fixed"

WHAT A SERVICE !!!!!!! So polite as usual everyone can speak better English than me and its sorted on the spot with no charge and FREE brew EVEN PUT THE TV OVER TO A CHANNEL THATS IN ENGLISH !!! The Dutch rule

driving up the road I left the status page open on the maxidot to see my new numbers

The service you get anywhere abroad is always better than here. They probably don't rag your car to burger king on a lunch time either or strip the wax off with tfr and clean it with a gritty sponge!

I have a lot of dealings with Opel and Ford while here for work and their dealerships on the same road are TERRIBLE for customer service really really really bad do servicings recalls and warranty work threw them am in with them at least 4 times a week so poor its unreal. My normal Skoda dealers in Northern Ireland John Mullholland are first class I have 110% faith in them well 109% Motorline I have little experience with but so far have not done anything to impress me fuel light on when collecting brand new car and this messing with fixed servicing and SAYING its SUK policy ..... oh and not calling me back yet STILL ! emoticon-0110-tongueout.gif

***Edit on 26/09/12, 14 months after posting this they still have not called me back...... disgusted***
