Insurance Companys

Featured Replies

Well that time has come and with a LOUD thud the renewal landed on the mat well landed I'm surprised it didn't go through the foundations when I read the price

It's gone up by a Grand, not mentioning who tho (little red phone) £1500 fully comp :'( :'(

So Iv'e now got a couple of weeks of looking for a competitive quote and was wondering who has used any of the Insurance companys advertised on here and what are your thoughts.

Quotes

customer service etc

Cheers in advance :thumbup:B)

A lot depends on your personal circumstances - but for the last several years I have alternated between the Cooperative Insurance and Liverpool Victoria.

I've tended in the past to play one off against the other at renewal time. This year, I paid £270 fully comp with a protected bonus with the Coop on my newish 1.8Tsi Octy Elegance. Self and wife driving - both no points or recent claims.

Ive used both these companies for quite a bit of Insurance over the years, including house and contents. I favour them because they are large, (massive in the case of the CIS), British Insurance companies and as secure as anything can be nowadays. I've personally found over many years, that often the best companies for many reasons, tend to be the 'Composite' insurance outfits that do all sorts of insurance business - like Life Insurance and all sorts of other insurance; - not just motor.

Both the companies I mentioned have English call centres too. I'm not racist, but I often have a big problem understanding Indian English. Also worth bearing in mind that different companies seem to be biased for or against certain types/ages of drivers, dependant on that firms claims experience.

Just to add to my reply - if anyone cares to check; I think you will find that the lot with the 'Red Phone' are owned by a Bank that had a 'Bit of Trouble' a while back. They are obviously trying to recoup money PDQ - this may go some of the way to explaining a massive premium hike.

just got a quote off moneysupermarket.com for £316, (havnt got the vrs yet but hopefully will be getting in the near future, if and when its built!!!)

it says insurance on average is going up 44p per day.

been told for the area i live tesco insurance is also competetive.

I use the NFU Mutual, I live in Devon but use the Bourne Branch in Lincolnshire, they are great, OK slightly more expensive than the cheapest out there, but they are human on the end of the phone, the call is answered in a few rings, straight through to who I want speak to, and all queries etc dealt with immediately etc etc, well worth considering, I had never thought about them until a few years ago when a friend recommended them to me for some classic insurance, since then havent looked back!

I've found bluefin brokers to be very competertive and cheaper than comparison web sites plus lower excesses breakdown cover legal etc. Good for taylor made cover. And you can talk to same person all the time so they know what you want.

james,

I think we're singing from the same hymn sheet. I might give the farmers a chance next time. I've heard good stuff about them too.

I think the only advice that can be given here is to shop around as much as you can. It all depends on your individual circumstances and insurance company products on offer at the relevant time. Good luck. You can save significant amounts by being thorough on the internet and phone.

Shop around using on-line companies maybe cheaper than High Street insurers.

Check your post-code out for living in a high risk area, if you are, find a relation in a low risk area and insure from their post-code.

:o That's providing false details which then invalidates your insurance.

james,

They arent the cheapest, but the service is bloody good, makes a huge difference, but as we all know with insurance companies it all depends on personal circumstances, but one good thing with the NFU is that as they are a mutual they give you extra bonuses depending on the amount of time you have insured with them, I have been with them about 3 years now, and my mutual discount is about 6% over and above any policy, NCB discounts etc

I was surprised to find my insurers, LV, sent me a renewal price (for my second year with them) that was within a couple of pounds of the best compare site quote. Have never had that happen before so I stayed with them. That's the first time for about 15 years that I've renewed with the same company

Been with Esure for the last 3-4 years. Always have to get a price through the comparison sites come renewal time but they've always matched it give or take a few pounds.

Was with Elephant before that but their prices were creeping up.

I've been with Admiral or Elephant for the last 5 or 6 years, who are owned by the same company. If you have more than one car Admiral's multicar policies take some beating (as do their single policies for me). They have Welsh call centres if that's ok :)

I just tried NFU got a quote of £3500! Elephant would do it for £1042

Try e-sure our quote for new vrs(still to be delivered) was only 230

Esure wouldn't quote me, the joys of being 25 with only 2 years no claims, nightmare to get insured on the new vrs

I'm afraid to say there's more to insurance than premium price if you need to claim!

Back in '04 my Pug 306 Estate got done over in the street overnight. Some rather organised scum tried to nick the lovely HDi engine; bonnet and subframe gone, all hoses and wires cut, sump cracked on trying to jack the engine out. Nice area of Edinburgh too!! Total loss. (I have the picture somewhere if you don't believe me).

Dealing with eSure as my insurer remains one of the singlely most painful experiences of my life. I had to fight long and hard to get my money and get a reasonable cheque out of them for the value of the car. I will never insure with them again!

As a result I always google the insurer for feedback on their service and attitude when you need them, as well as the bottom line when presented by the comparison sites.

Though as a two car family Admiral are hard to beat with Multicar.

Niall

It's all a bit of a bluff. I saw an ad for RIAS and got an online quote for over £400. I ignored it (I pay low £200's) but a few days later got a cold call from them asking what I thought.

Over the phone he was able to reduce it immediately to £289.

If they can do that, why not quote it in the first place?

I told him to stuff it (but more politely!)

I tried all the site sponsors last week and checked a few online places too and stuck with my renewal price as it was the Lowest price, even with my mods.

Thanks Admiral

The only thing Admiral couldn't do with their multicar system was get mine and SWMBO's insurance any cheaper than buying 2 single policies from them.

i did a check on the comparison sites and admiral was coming in for me at around 313, i am 25 with 5 years no claims.

although it did not come with legal cover etc so time you add the extras you need prob 400, i did get a quote from skoda insurance which came in at 540.

has anyone ever used skoda insurance?

sometimes cheapest is not best.

Don't use Chris Knott as Liverpool Victoria who they use will bend you over backwards if you have to claim.Even if it isn,t your fault.

Really? I have not had to use them for a car claim but they were brilliant with some home claims we had.

just renewed esure protected, hire car ,legal cover ,personal injury 370 with shark remap
