Interior less drab?

Featured Replies

How do you Fabia version I owners make your interiors look less dull, drab and dry? Looking to buy a used one, but the inside feels really depressing....... Im seeking some inspiration on things I can do on the cheap. I'm imagining this would involve strategically placed 12v LEDs wired up to the cigarette lighter or something.........

On another note, are the generic universal seat covers really that universal? Any particular generic one any of you found to be a snug fit?

***MODS: sorry guys, posted in the wrong subforum....could an exalted mod please move it to the Fabia version 1 section? *****

I`d think about spraying the dash inserts a different colour (blower vents etc)...only cost would be for the paint and your time.

Drab? No way lol

Plastic primer first, then regular car paint and lacquer.

and removing the panels in the first place? easy enough for a noob to do?

Ive just done my air vents in white to go with seats but as the seats are more grey/white so it doesn't quite look right.

The car is silver so i think im gonna go over it in that instead!

well, the one ive just bought is a reddish-orange sort of colour.....what interior colour scheme should i consider?

I'm sorry, but I couldn't think of anything worse than sporadic LEDs around the cabin - it's a car, not a christmas tree :D

I don't find the interior of mine too drab...then again, I am running a tart's handbag red leather retrim!

I'm giving red pillars a go.

I'll hopefully update my build thread with them finished or near finished tomorrow.

does the heater vent surounds just clip out?

Yeah, the heater vents come out as units and then you can dismantle them to paint only the frame.

I did mine silver, and also fitted footwell lights

I like the bold colors and silver is a little obvious, but it matches all the other vRS trims bits nicely. The look a bit bright in the pic but the vents are more like the gear knob surround.

My paint is 2 years old-ish now and looks as good as the day I did them. I just roughed up the surface with some light sand paper and went straight on with the colour, no primer.. I used allot of paint though and sanded between coats for a nice smooth finish.. I didn't use any lacquer either as I didn't want them reflective, I liked the matt / Alu kinda finish, again.. to match the kn0b, dials etc.

no not sporadically placed....like under the dash to illuminate the front footwells, or under the front seats to light up the rear footwells........ I realise that'll make it look too boyracerish, so was hoping for some inspirational ideas on other things i could try.

when you're layering on the paint, don't you run the risk of the joints becoming too thick to fit back in properly?

Does that involve taking off the existing pillars, prime, paint and veneer then pop back on?

Don't forget I was sanding between coats.. and had sanded the plastic to start with, and didn't use primer or lacquer.. No problems going back in at all! :)

oh i see! sounds like too big an undertaking for a noob though. One day, perhaps...

No it involves taking the pillars off, giving them a wipe, brushing on some Alphabond AF178 professional upholstery glue and sticking the cloth on. In this case I chose to use felt as it's flexible and easy to cut and apply, etc.

I did a little more work today and finished them off. Sorry about the crappy pic quality.

Looking very swish...is the headliner fabric your next target to make it all look continuous?

Nope, I'm happy enough to leave the headliner as it is. I think a red headliner would be a little too far. The idea was to tidy up the old scuffed up pillars and try to break up the mass of grey and black a little. I chose red because it matches the red in the logo. I might get the gear gaitor done with new leather with red stitching at some stage as it's a little worn but i'm happy enough with it for now. The doorcards are looking a little tired and dirty as well. But i'm just going to clean them up and keep them standard for now.

There's a red leather steering wheel on eBay at the minute.. But they want a gazillion pounds for it..

Yes I saw that. I also had a look at the other items. Looks like scene tax has gone up again. £400 for a forking dashboard!! I could buy 2 and have them both trimmed for that.

I've a good way to brighten up the interior......DON'T GET A VRS!!!!! :giggle:

I've got an early Elegance with the black top dash and the tan/biscuit coloured interior, with chrome door handles, chrome door pins, chrome handbrake button, chrome top to the gearstick, all as standard!! I then fitted the Skoda leather steering wheel and leather gearstick & gaiter :p

And with the dark metallic blue paintwork...it looks like an Audi!!!
