Retractable external mirrors

Featured Replies

Hi all, I just went onto the Skoda UK site & if you follow the below link it suggests the vRS have retractable mirrors, if you hold down the lock button. Are these standard or is this part of the NEW models, rumoured, to be built from week 20?

If someone can clarify if this is standard, an option.

Cheers

I think your link is for the Australian brochure (hence RS instead of vRS).

This is the UK brochure:

http://www.skoda.co.uk/GBR/Documents/brochures/cars/brochure_octavia.pdf

No retractable/folding door mirrors (either standard or as a factory option) are available on the UK specification vRS I'm afraid.

As far as I am aware only the L&K (Laurin & Klement) has them...

"Electrically adjustable, heated and foldable door mirrors with memory function".

Ah... ok, that explains it. Thought I was missing a trick. It would be nice option to have on the UK models - shame really

Thanks

yh especially when we have plenty of wee drunken chavs volleying them off!

Flamin options on Skoda'a are crazy, you can get this as standard in one country, as option in another country an not all in other countries, isn't it about time Skoda/VW got their act together and at least made everything optional regardless of country, could still keep different specs for different countries but still allow the alternative options to be available everywhere.

What are the new model changes from wk 20? Typically mine is build wk 19!

I don't think there are any for the Octavia. I thought it was week 22 the new MY starts

I know of one person here in the UK who managed to get electric folding mirrors on his new FL Octy vRS.

As I was told by:

The dealer

Skoda UK via my dealer

and finally Skoda UK directly to me

That folding mirrors were under no circumstances to be fitted to a vRS I'm not too happy.

Fair enough - make that the rule for everybody.

But when somebody here on these forums asks and receives - a little unhappy.

Written to Skoda UK with regards this issue.

Had a phone call to say they are looking into it and will be back in touch shortly.

I think it used to be part of electrical seats package, but they stopped it. On continent you get them with or without electric seats as option.

I asked Skoda UK Customer Services why electrically folding mirrors weren't available on the VRS who told me they had no say in what options were available and that it was decided at head office in the Czech Republic. I emailed Skoda in the Czech Republic and they replied that the options available in local markets are determined by the local Skoda marketing people.

A bit Kafkaesque, but I tend to believe the Czech response.

IMHO it is a purely marketing decision. Skoda UK seem to want the VRS to be less luxurious than other markets.

It seems like madness to me. I would have happily paid extra for electrically folding mirrors.

Could be more of a VW decision then Skoda, to keep Skoda underprivileged on equipment compared to VW/Audi.

Not missing that much. The mirrors only fold part way before hitting a stop. Other brands allow the mirror glass to end up parallel to the door glass.

It's exactly the run-around I was given.

However there is a member on these very forums (I'll ask him if I can mention his username before I do) who managed to get his dealer to add folding mirrors and seperate heated seats controls for the rear seats on his vRS.

Neither of which appear on any of the UK vRS specifcation sheets - however he did indeed get them.

I agree, I have an L & K and holding down the lock button on the remote folds the mirrors and it folds out again when the drivers door is opened. They can also be folded from the inside by turning the mirror adjustment knob to the relevant icon, but it only works when stationary or at very low speeds, it's explained in the handbook - trouble is this icon cannot be seen when sitting in the drivers seat as the knob is in the way. Had the car a couple of months and only found out about it recently.

Just to clarify the Irish spec vRS DONT have folding mirrors (we cant afford em anymore anyhow) :giggle:

Why specifically on the Octy VRS though?

No one's going to stump up another approx £6K to buy a Golf GTi just on the basis that it can come with folding mirrors surely?

I currently have a 2yr old Citroen & they are standard on the Exclusive range, work as the same as the L&K it seems. Dead handy for the garage & parking on busy roads. Every little bit helps in these tight spaces we have to put up with in the UK.

Gotta admit it does seem daft to offer different parts for different areas of EU. I suppose someone is paid lots of money for makig these frustrating choices for the consumer to winge about. :D

oh bugger....my bad.

for some reason i remember reading in a previous discussion (with regards to retrofitting folding mirrors) on this forum a while ago that it was mentioned its spec'ed over there.

Retrofitting is very hard due to all electronics. I remember before buying the Scout i wanted to get the Yeti, and it did not have folding mirrors even as an option, and the dealer said it would be impossible to retrofit them after talking to some tech in Austria.

Think Stoofa's referring to me - I just asked my dealer (Citygate Colindale) nicely, and he did the rest for me - I actually even got them for free because my original order went in without them, and the car had to be re-ordered, hence adding another 4 weeks to my wait.

Hi all, I just went onto the Skoda UK site & if you follow the below link it suggests the vRS have retractable mirrors, if you hold down the lock button.

So glad I found this thread - I had been folding them from inside the car after every journey till now (my dealer had told me that was the only way to operate them!)

I contacted Skoda UK to "complain" about the fact I was told by two seperate people there was no way I could have them, however Kelvin (above) managed.

I got a letter and phone call from somebody at Skoda saying that indeed it wasn't possible.

I then gave him Kelvin's details, registration number and order number and said it is possible, see.

I haven't heard back from them since!!

Good old Skoda - happy to correspond when they think they are in the right, not so happy when things are not going their way :)

Would be nice to have them. My wife has a Jazz and you press a button and they fold in at whatever speed. My Dad's Merc folds them in when you park up and I wouldn't mind that feature as I always have to fold at least one in at work due to parking on a side road with cars either side.

I used to have a Civic Type R and the jap version had more poke, LSD, folding mirrors, better seats etc. I don't get why the UK has to be different, we want all the same things don't we??
