Quick question to get me started on the forum, can an atmospheric (noisey) dump valve be fitted and who has had one fitted.

Nope diesel don't work like petrol so you can't fit a standard dump valve to it sorry. Petrol D/V work but a build up of pressure before the throttle butterfly, diesels do have this buttefly so they don't work.

There is a diesel dump valve avaliable if that is your sort of thing, but the cost plus fitting (you won't be able to do it yourself) is a lot and not worth the money.

But why spend big money on a mod which sticks out like the proverbial when you open the bonnet or drive the car, probably does nothing to enhance performance, and puts your warranty at risk? :confused:

Here is what tdiclub.com says

Yeah fit an air assisted clutch, that will work.

I really can't understand why you'd ever want one, even on a petrol! Just shouts 'Boy-Racer' and implies your car's a budget model tarted up to look like a top of the range!

We fit alot of these, about 5-10 a week. you can have them switchable so you can turn them off

You're better of with one of those sound-generators that fit under the bonnet and have a switch next to the accelerator pedal...

That is correct but this is not a standard dump valve like on a petrol per say.

i know an old thread but i recently heard a dump valve on a 1.9 ibiza and they are pretty loud and dont sound too bad once the cars heated up abit

Just wire up a speaker under the bonnet with a microphone inside and every so often go pssssttttt.

lol what.they are loud too i was in the car in front with the cd player on and up pretty loud and could still hear it

Not sure I understand your point - budget models of cars don't tend to be turbocharged, so couldn't have a dump valve fitted - EG impreza sport is the budget, non turbo version and so can't have a dump valve. Same goes for a Nova SR. If you've heard Novas with dump valves, they'll be 2.0 litre calibra turbo engines in there, and they may be boy-racer cars but they're also faster in a straight line at least than most vRS Octavias and all vRS Fabias - and a few Porsches too! Until recently the fastest FWD car in the country was a turbocharged Nova made ny Courtenay Conversions that did a sub six second 0-60 and a 1/4 mile time of around 12 or 13 seconds if I remeber correctly.

And yes, I used to drive a Nova SR! :P no turbo but it did have a twin choke weber uprated carb, K&N filter, janspeed manifold and system and a few other bits and bobs. It was capable of going past the numbers on the speedo (which goes up to 120) which all told is not bad for a 1.3 engine and group 5 insurance. Novas are good cars if kept out of the hands of w@nkers who stick 18s on them and superglue a surfboard to the roof and call it a spoiler...

No one in the VRS club (Furby or Octy) can have a "noisy" DV fitted and say it is a performance mod according to reliable sources. But that doesn't mean they don't sound good. Maybe i'm in the minority (but i don't think so if people are honest) i think they do sound good and would have one fiited if it was the right vehicle .

An atmospheric dump valve is not efficent where as a recirculating one is the way to go. The Atmospheric one doesn't keep the turbo spinning which is not good if you are driving Briskly where as the recirculating one dumps the air back into the system which keeps the turbo going so you get alot less lag

Plus Atmos ones sound chavvy
