Insurance moan

Featured Replies

I've never had a claim so I admit I am devoid of knowledge in that area.

What I do hate though is insurance companies deliberately making it difficult at the end of a policy. I think I would rather avoid companies that do not acknowledge above 5 years NCB than having to phone and write letters in order to get proof.

They're not deliberately making it hard... the norm for NCD was 5 years before lots of companies accepted more in a marketing ploy to make you think your getting more when for those 4 years you may get like 2-3% off the premium which yeh ofc every little helps but.. One phone call says 'I dont want to renew and can you write a letter confirming how many years NCD I came to you with... thanks? :)'

I always hate sorting out my insurance quote every year :p It is always the same rigmarole of receiving an inflated renewal then getting new quotes then ringing up the previous insurer just to price match.

To add to the thread, my renewal this year was £221 (33yr old in an "A" area, with a £150 excess). God knows how much they are going to charge when I change it to the 105 TSI!

called skoda insurance today for my free 7 days thing, all went smoothly and starts friday 20th, should get my vrs this weekend =D

i then asked for a quote for a full year just so i could laugh at the price..

turns out i cannot be given a quote as the vrs on skoda insurance has a minimum age of 24!! and minimum no claims of 5 years!

with me being 20 its a good job it isnt the same all across the board :whew:

Probably shouldn't mention that I am an insurance underwriter.

All I would say is all the prices you have mentioned are exceptionally cheap. Make the most of them before they continue to rise year after year.

insurance company's are some of the biggest thieves known to man, each year theres been a record claims for this or that and your premium has to go up. load of tosh, theres no poor insurance company's, there all creaming it in blaming whatever seasonal thing happens yet if we have a good year they never go back down, we always seem to be paying for something that happened and 99% of the time its to somebody else. its the most unfair and unjust business i know of, yet another case of rip off britain. we all need to be rated on our own driving standards, not an average

right, time to get down off my soapbox :S

anychance you could tell me why an insurer (direct line...) would insure me for 1 year, then decline me insurance the 2nd year, the renewal quote you normally get didnt come, but i got a letter saying i had 1 years no claims, i phoned up for a quote and was told they cant insure me, with no reason to back it up..

the only details to change were my age and no claims

I tried to get a quote last year from direct line. They told me they were far to busy to give out quotes could i call back later. Who knows how bad they must be if you put in a claim :o;)

20 years old and my VRS will be £600 for the year, and thats without a couple of the extra discounts I get.

how on earth you get it that low at 20

I'm 31 7yrs ncb no points etc etc and paying just less, must be postcode

Actually used to work for Direct Line but it's very simple. If they believe that they do not want a specific risk (i.e something that you are associated with like your area/vehicle/claims) then they will just decline renewal and provide your no claims.

assumed that would have been the case, in that year on my street alone, a house got broken into and had 2 laptops stolen, and someones van got set on fire, all with direct line..

i thought it was illegal for them to refuse me insurance after previously giving it to me (they could how ever, give me a damned stupid quote like a million quid)
